Does UGA deserve a BCS game?

  • IMO yes, they didnt win on the field tonight but they did win against Florida. I know Saban took heat for his comments early in the week, but in hindsight I think he has a great point. The loser of the SEC championship should go to the Sugar Bowl, and UGA deserves that spot..even over Florida. But UF deserves a BCS game as well (stupid rules) This is the way it SHOULD be!

    UA vs ND - NC
    UGA vs Oklahoma - Sugar
    UF vs Stanford- Rose

Sorry Wisconsin, but a Capital One Bowl vs Texas A&M/USCe/LSU is all you deserve after being 3rd in your division. (I know yall won the Big Ten but no way with the body of work you should go ahead of UF) And in all those games you would be underdogs. Bowl Ties are good in the right situations, and i love the tradition, but this is a no brainer.

  • There is a big flaw in the scenario just presented. I do in fact believe that UGA deserves a BCS bowl, but the NCAA has a rule that only two teams from one conference are allowed to go to a BCS bowl maximum.

  • If Georgia deserves a BCS bowl with the 41st ranked schedule, what about South Carolina with the 36th toughest schedule? Texas A&M with the 27th toughest schedule? LSU with the 28th toughest schedule? All of these teams have 2 losses. Just wondering your thought process.

The loser of the SECCG shouldn't automatically go to the Sugar Bowl, but in this case you have a team that won their division over a team that they also beat that will be going. UGA should go if teams were picked logically and teams weren't punished for playing an extra game, but that's not how they do things.

I would bet that Florida would have gladly traded places though and been able to say they were the East champs.

Hypothetically speaking, if we'd have been East champs, we'd have been 12-0 and ranked #1 going into the game last night. And if we'd lost, we'd still be going to the Sugar Bowl with our only loss coming to the number 3 ranked team. We wouldn't have fallen more than 3 spots.

Hate on Florida all you want but the resume speaks for itself. We're going to the Sugar Bowl and we deserve it.

Didn't say you didn't deserve it. System sucks. UGA still beat Florida and was punished for playing in the SECCG. Unfortunately both teams can't play in the BCS while an unranked team will.

If you'd been 12-0, you would have beaten UGA so that would have changed things as well.

Good thing the system is gone after this year. Much as I hate the Pups, I'll give them some props for last night. They didn't roll over when Bama started punching. Got ran over and keep fighting back. Entertaining game. That said, to hell with Georgia and the SEC scheduling gods.

And being honest, usce has two loses also and they murdered uga.

Yep. People are forgetting they went 1-2 against top 12 teams while we went 3-1. We went on the road and beat the team that gave Bama its only lost. We ran for 400 yards against LSU while beating them and USC at home as dogs. Then murked FSU and their "number 1 ranked defense" in Tally. Georgia beat us. No excuse. They did that. But I'm sure they'll enjoy the Cap One Bowl.

Murray deserves some credit for last night for sure.

Their defense just shouldn't have been running their mouth, IMO. The one thing I guess they forgot is that it didn't matter if they had more NFL talent on their defense than ours. Our offensive live was just better than their defense.

At least Northern Illinois won and there's not a chance you get lined up with a crapper like Kent St.

I know that's right. Man, that would've sucked. And all the NFL talent is on its way out of Athens.

Yeah but only one of the five are eligible due to conference restrictions.

He mentioned both scenarios as to why he didn't like the selection process. He didn't like a team being punished by playing in the SEC Championship over a team that didn't and he didn't like teams that get in with much lower rankings.

Whether or not the new system with a 4-team playoff is a great idea is left to be seen, but the new "Selection Bowls" that are basically what the other BCS bowls will provide much better matchups and will reward teams that should be a little better.

  • His comments about being "punished" were flat out stupid, in UF's case.

Why not make this point? UF, LSU, aTm, and USCe were all "punished" for playing the tougher conference schedules.

    CRgator1

  • I could go either way on this.. its not like we haven't benefited from the system, ie last year.. it took 5 TO for UGA to scrape by UF. That was a good UGA team we played last night and if that team was the team that showed up against USCe then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

  • Bunch of crybabies ITT.

Nobody had sympathies for us in years that we had to play UF, UGA and TN in the same year. UGA didn't have to play LSU, Bama or A&M this year (well at least until the game that really counted). You can only play the people that are put on your schedule.

He made that point as well. It just wasn't the sound bite that was taken. The same thing would have held true if UF was 12-0 and UGA 11-1. If UF would have lost last night, they could have dropped to #4 and UGA could have been #3 and it could have been the other way around.

I think the bigger picture of his argument was that if we move forward to 16 team power conferences across the board and expand the playoff to 8 teams that teams that win their division will get left out over a team they beat that didn't have to play a conference game. UF and UGA are just the current example, IMO.

    Correct.

And UGA beating UF, losing to Bama, and getting demolished by South Carolina is not as good as:

UF: dominating LSU, dominating USCe, losing to UGA, beating aTm, and dominating FSU.

Difference is lsu played a scrub in championship game. It was clear that bama n lsu were top teams in conference.. ..and most likely top teams in nation.

That isn't so clear this year.

The 2 team per conference rule is garbage.

I won't argue against this. That is why I could go either way.. with the 4 team playoff is it going to come down to body of work or how they finish.. how do you decide 4 best teams?
