MSU hasn't exactly produced the greatest players, so that isn't saying much.

  • I know it is tough to do both sports, but who are we to say he can't right now. The final result won't be known until after his years at wherever he plays (I presume MSU will get him tomorrow). Who knows, he could be a freak athlete and pull it off. Hell I kinda want to see him pull it off because that is so rare nowadays.

No, not at all. Derrick Mason, Plaxico Burress, Devin Thomas, Charles Rogers, Andre Rison, those guys were all horrible.

Not at MSU, but Julius Peppers, Tony Gonzalez, Donovan McNabb, Charlie Ward and IIRC Antwan Randal-El all played both during their colligate career’s. Stud TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins did both this past year at UW.

I’m sure that if Antonio Gate’s would have been given the chance he would have played both at MSU as well.

I think he could do both. IMO his future’s brighter in Football since 6’4 G’s (FWIW he would probably be 6’5 or 6’6 in shoes) are a dime a dozen in the NBA, but I don’t see why he couldn’t do both.

We're also talking about kids who aren't even juniors in high school yet. The fact that he's tall already doesn't mean he can't get any taller. These kids are committing at a younger age every year, so projected size will need to become a focus in recruiting.

That's why I think the dual scholarship offers at MSU will be one of the deciding factors. That and he's always been an MSU fan, and MSU has well-established, stable coaches in both sports. He doesn't have to play both sports in college, but right now each sport has to be an option.

24/7 shows a Michigan bball offer but if you guys say Beilein didn't offer, whatever, it's your team. And needless to say, I will indeed have a meltdown if an MSU fan, in-state, dual-sport star commits early to another team.

Without knowing anything about him Id say Michigan Notre dame battle.

lol our name is mentioned for the "wow" factor.. 99% of the time you'd have been correct guessing UM or ND, but this Sparty fan is obviously confident for a reason. Don't think they're use to winning these battles for in state kids when the big boys come a knocking..

It's only funny because if he was a U of M or Notre Dame lean there would have already been a 3 week long sausage fest on this forum talking about how great your team is going to be some day. That's pretty much the sole reason I made the thread. Call it a social experiment, but I was curious to see what kind of bitter responses would come from the teams that rely on recruiting to feel good about mediocrity in recent history.

The only guy on that list that would be in Michigan's top 5 is Plaxico Burress.

Charles would have made it as well. He was a bust in the NFL, but the guy dominated CFB.

I'm sure Charles Rogers - who was the number two OVERALL pick in the draft - would not be able to break the top five Michigan receivers of all time.

Out of all the dumb stuff you post...well, this just fits right in.

Curious who exactly makes up UM's top 5 WRs?

MSU also has gene washington and kirk gibson to add on to the previous list of WRs.

I'd say Charles Rogers was the best reciever MSU has ever had. Kid was a freak in college. I'd like to see 5 receivers that had better careers at UM.

You realize 2nd in career receptions at MSU would be about 6th at michigan right?

You realize that you come from a fan base that claims they dont care about MSU and your name clearly shows that anyone who claims that is wrong right?

Michigan WRs typically don't pan out in the pros anyway. You've basically got Anthony Carter, Amani Toomer, then "every OMG Michigan WR evar!" who barely last a season or two after busting. Kind of like UofM RBs. Michigan and "great WRs" is a short list.

Of those players, only Edwards won the Belitnikoff Award and Paul Warfield Award like Charles Rogers did.

    1 Braylon Edwards 252/3541
    2 Marquise Walker 176/2269
    3 Jason Avant 169/2247
    4 Anthony Carter 161/3076
    5 Steve Breaston 156/1696

If I had to make a top 5 with UM and MSU receivers
    1.Anthony Carter
    2.Desmond Howard
    3.Charles Rogers
    4.Braylon
    5.Plax

5 is pretty debatable. Guy’s like Rison, Smith, Alexander, and Terrell could all make case for being #5.

Didn’t count Oosterban (sp?) different era.

The RBs are because they are usually run into the ground before leaving Michigan, the receivers just tend to be head cases or are just college stars. It's not like MSU is one to talk though, since you guys have such good NFL prestige with all your star RBs and such.

Rogers is the best receiver on that list and it isn't close. He played two years on bad teams and still put up ridiculous numbers.

I was sorting based on receptions. As strictly a WR, Desmond Howard barely cracks the top 10 receivers list at UM based on receiving stats.
