Dual Sport, Four Star Athlete to Decide Tomorrow

Have they been successful enough to make either professional league? He will have to choose one and commit to it to reach his full potential.

Obviously going back, but that Rison guy and that Gibson guy played a bit in the pros.

Rogers is the best receiver on that list and it isn't close. He played two years on bad teams and still put up ridiculous numbers.

This is the truth. Rogers was a freak. Neither team has seen athlete like Rogers before and there hasnt been one on either team since. He was a legit sub 4.3. That is amazing. He has hall of fame talent, but he was such a dumbass.

I never saw that last guy play. Do you have any highlight videos? Did video exist at that time?

I included him because he has/had his number retired and caught a ton of TDs. He could easily be switched around with Toomer or Alexander.

Kirk Gibson played baseball though, the football and baseball seasons don't overlap like football and basketball season and baseball isn't nearly as demanding as baseball in terms of S&C. I just looked Rison up, he only played in 24 basketball games and decided to stick with football. So even back 20 years ago it was difficult to do both basketball and football, imagine it now with the evolution of S&C and how far the seasons overlap with each other.

I was sorting based on receptions. As strictly a WR, Desmond Howard barely cracks the top 10 receivers list at UM based on receiving stats.

He also played a year less than most of the players ahead of him.

  • I think the issue is that Harris has the OPTION of playing both football and bball at MSU. No one is saying that he'll definitely excel at both, but it's the one school that's recruiting him to do both.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Curious who exactly makes up UM's top 5 WRs?

MSU also has gene washington and kirk gibson to add on to the previous list of WRs.

I'd say Charles Rogers was the best reciever MSU has ever had. Kid was a freak in college. I'd like to see 5 receivers that had better careers at UM.

Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, Braylon Edwards, Anthony Carter, Mario Manningham

Exactly and this is why the kid is making the right decision. Not one I'm happy with but it's definitely the right decision and it's a very good get for MSU.

All the UM fans who are blaming Izzo for "selling this kid false hope" or something just sound bitter and quite dumb honestly. And then of course it turns into a UM/MSU pissing match which there's already roughly 25000 comments of over on the thread designated for that BS. The kid still doesn't even know what sport he wants to play in college he's never said he's set on playing both. But, he's going to the school giving him the opportunity to play both. I don't get what's so hard to understand.

BUT, NSD 2014 is a longgggggggg ways away.

I think in the Fall he could sign a BBall scholarship this year. BBall has that early signing period, but there is no way I could tell you when it is or who is eligible for it.

I would take Charles Rogers over every one of those guys. Put Rogers circa 2002 on a USC or 2010 MSU and he wins the Heisman.

even if that were the case we still have 4/5 others that would be better than any other recever MSU has had.

And I would take all of those guys save Mario over Rogers. Put Desmond on that 1991 Michigan team and he wins a heisman oh wait.... he did! Did Rogers even come in the top 10 for any heisman votings?

I'd take Plaxico over those guys, too. Plax at least has a notable pro career. I've never even heard of Anthony Carter, and Manningham is a pedestrian pro and was an unremarkable college player. Edwards was a great, but not elite, college WR. Howard is a punt returner, and Woodson isn't even a WR.

For more hilarity (not that UM fans didn't provide enough in this thread), go check out MGoBlog.com. The delusion and flip flopping there is even more hypocritical. UM fans thought they could steal a recruit because Harris' dad is a huge UM fan.

I also think it's cute that B__ says that he hasn't offered yet, because he "waits until the summer after a HS sophomore year". I guess B__ wanted to break the 2 year streak of every MSU commit having a UM offer, while none of the UM commits have an MSU offer. (The streak would be much longer, Izzo hasn't lost a recruit to UM since Deshawn Sims. And he called Izzo as soon as his senior season ended, and asked Izzo what he could do to learn how to play defense in prep for NBA workouts).

Spin away Walmarters, you really do amuse me. I just wish we could save this thread, Harris is going to both sports all 4 years, you're just hoping he won't. Anyone who doesn't think he'll excel in football is crazy. He was literally better as a HS soph than any WR currently on the UM roster.

  • Looking more & more like a nice pickup for Izzo.

No clue if he plays both sports or not. If it's at MSU- I don't really care one way of the other.

The only thing I know for a FACT is: w/o Izzo at MSU...this kid wouldn't even be thinking about playing basketball or football in East Lansing.

Nice pickup tho. Kid appears to be a stud baller.

You mean that without us having a HOF basketball coach he wouldn't want to play basketball at MSU? I'm curious at to what your logic is behind this post. That would be like me saying, "Without UM's storied history, X recruit who had an MSU offer wouldn't even think about playing football at UM".

Really comes off as an inconsequential point.

Maybe if we tie for 3rd in the B1G, and have an alum on the Sugar Bowl committee we can do that. (Oh wait, didn't UM do that last year?)

Hey, UM is still relevant. If the UM/VT game wasn't such a laughable joke (as noted by every sportwriter in the country last year, based on the teams being there, and then again by the crap show both teams put up on the field), we wouldn't have a college football playoff now.

The BCS was created when the media gifted UM it's first championship since the 1940s (and sports fans were outraged), and then the BCS was killed off when UM was gifted what people used to think of as a prestigious bowl invite.

See you Oct. 20th, I'm really looking forward to those Denard Robinson arm punts.

  • Andre Rison, Muhsin Muhammad, Plaxico Burress, Charles Rodgers, Courtney Hawkins (2nd round pick/1,000yd receiver), B.J. Cunningham...

MSU has had amazing receivers, even during the worst historical era for their football program....
