Dwight Howard should just stay at Orlando....for now

  • if he tells them he won't resign and they still ask him to stay then just let the Nets know you're coming so clear room and then go there in the offseason. If Orlando are dumb enough to not trade this guy then they should get nothing.

Dwight gets to close out with the team and then sign on to a team who doesn't have to give up their likely top 5 pick. Or they could trade the 5th pick for a starting SF.

    Imagine Nets 2012:

    PG - Deron Williams
    SG - Marshon Brooks
    SF - Anthony Morrow
    PF - Brook Lopez
    C - Dwight Howard

Would be an amazing offensive team with the best defensive player in the league in the middle. Instead of drafting a guy like Jeremy Lamb for depth I'd trade that pick and Morrow who can score for a legit starting SF.

Would be a 4-5 seed in Eastern Conference playoffs.

  • They could trade that top 5 pick for Ariza and Xavier Henry straight up with New Orleans.

    fsufsu

  • Orlando should ride out the DH12 storm regardless IMO. If he leaves, then he leaves and you create a bunch of cap space instead of eating up cap space with contracts of guys you don't want anyways. I don't agree with the idea of trading him for much lesser value just so you get some guys in exchange for him. Otis Smith is quite capable of getting mediocre/washed up players in free agency on his own, we don't need more in exchange for a departing Howard.

  • If he would agree to sign the extension the Lakers deal would be over... I think he will eventually.

  • Only reason he doesn't get traded is a very very old owner who doesn't want to go through rebuilding

The team he goes to will be much better if he goes as a free agent.

I believe there are rules and he would make more money going in a trade/sign and trade than he would going as just a free agent. The max contract is higher if you aren't a free agent. So, that'd be why he would want a trade.

Sign and trade they get that extra year which equates to about $30 million... can't get the extra deal on straight f/a.. so you are correct.

    Hear fuvking hear!

D12 will never do as the OP suggests, IMO. Too worried about how the public and league perceives him.

Edit: reread OP. My bad, though you said tell Orlando he'd resign before going back on his word and going to New Jersey.

  • Otis should just get it over with and trade him for the most value available, it’s the only chance he has of keeping his job. I’m clueless when it comes to Cap matters, but I don’t think there are many teams this offseason that have enough room to sign him.

thats right. It was length not per year money. But, that extra year is something I'm sure he wants.

  • Word is Dwight has basically decided on Brooklyn. Orlando could get either Brook or Humphries, their top 5 pick, and probably Marshon Brooks too. Which would be a great trade for Orlando given the circumstances.

Brook Lopez is a 23 year old 7 footer who can average 25ppg in the future. He averaged 20 a game as a 22 year old. He doesn't rebound though so a guy like Humphries would be a goo PF with him. Then you suck a good bit the rest of the year and get probably around the 8th pick and the 10th pick in the draft because NJ would improve a lot down the stretch.

Lopez, Humphries, Brooks, and a top 10 pick or nothing? Hmmmmmm

    fsufsu

  • Dwight will get 'Bron money in endorsements playing in New York. His salary will just be straight to savings/investments.

    fsufsu

  • anywhere but the Lakers that's all I care about. They would have a damn good squad if he went to the Nets.

Brook Lopez looked like a slow and unathletic big man the other night when matched up against Howard. Lopez may be serviceable, but he doesn't look like he will develop into a franchise big man from what I have seen. We should have kept Gortat. If we still had Gortat, I might be more in favor of dealing Howard right now and taking lesser value or a couple of legitimate draft picks.

Orl dont wants Humphries either..If the Nets make a trade with Orl it will have to involve a 3rd team. If not Orl will sign n trade Dwight in the off season, they wont get what they would get today..But thats the only way Dwight can get that big contract..Its a 4 yr $80 mill deal if he signs in the off season with NJ..He would have a 5 yr $120 mill deal if he is signed an traded 1st.. An he as already said he wont leave Orl high an dry like Shaq did, hes gunna make sure we get ours in return..

Are you serious though?? Lopez litterally just came back from an injury an maybe has played 2 games this year..An thats what your basing your opionion off of?? Wow

The other reason I say make him walk is because he looks like the bad guy for leaving more money and the team that drafted him and built an arena for him to go to a non contender like NJ just so he can be more famous and hang out with Jay Z. We would also get to stick it to him as best as we can by making him leave money on the table. I pull for Howard only because he plays for Orlando, if he leaves then I say F him, stick it to him the only way we can by making him leave $30 mil in salary on the table and save the cap space and dinero to acquire better free agent prospects in the future.

Then it'll happen late this week and early next week then. He wants to be gone and Orlando can't overcome Miami or Chicago in the playoffs, maybe not even NYK. So make the trade.

Not totally. I am also basing my opinion on his inability to rebound. If Howard leaves and we get Lopez, who is going to rebound for the Magic? Howard's points are great, but in the past Howard hasn't necessarily helped the magic by scoring 20 points per game. He has helped by owning the boards and the paint. Lopez will do neither of those. I'd rather have someone that is going to run shit down low; JJ, Anderson, Nelson (any year but this year) and the rest of the crew can handle the scoring end of things most of the time.

  • Lopez is an athletic, strong 23 year old 7 footer and he averages like 4.5 rebounds per 48 minutes and around 3.5 a game over his career. That's impressively bad. How do you do that?

he averages little over 7 for his career. Had a couple 8 rebound years. I've had him on my fantasy hoops team. You might be thinking of his brother.

I know they dont have cap room.. that is why it is referred to as a trade..... fans may not want any part of it.. good news is they dont have a say. Howard may not end up there but if he were to sign an extension the deal would be done already.
