Dwight has set this up perfectly for the perfect play.....

  • he has done everything in his power to get the message out he's leaving. Orlando is holding out and rightfully so but a little bit out of delusion or desperation. If I am Dwight I tell Otis Smith it's 60/40 I re-sign in the offseason. That baits Otis and ownership into not trading him, first day of free agency, July 1st, I sign with New Jersey. Orlando fans are going to be mad at him for a few months any way it gets sliced but fans will look back on these last 3 months and mostly be pissed at ownership and Otis.

    New Jersey next year:
    Deron Williams
    Marshon Brooks
    Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
    Brook Lopez
    Dwight Howard

    Jordan Farmar
    Anthony Morrow
    Deshawn Stevenson
    Sheldon Williams
    Johan Petro
Currently slotted to be #9 Draft pick which NBAdraft.net has them taking Austin Rivers but it could be Thomas Robinson, Perry Jones, etc.

Wow. He'd be in NYC, HUGE endorsement money, superstardom, best team he's played on since the Atlanta Celtics that one year, etc. They'd be getting 40pts, 22rbs, 5blks out of their 4 and 5 every night with a top 5 PG running the show.

  • F the Nets. I want either Deron Williams or Dwight Howard or I'll be disappoint in this offseason.

  • Sorry but I see no way he is staying in the off-season. If he does leave I would fully blame management for not seeing the writing on the wall. But I do believe you are right that when he leaves he signs with New Jersey.

I think that would make a very good team, but I think I would still pick Chicago or Miami to beat them in a 7 game series.

  • Like I said, Dwight has set this up perfectly where all he needs to do is stay till July and make Otis Smith the pariah in Orlando. He joins the Nets with them intact and at that point an elite Eastern conference team and the endorsement dollars will be massive. He and Lin will be the two most publicized athletes in New York because Eli is a goober, Melo's a selfish thug, Amar'e is low key, ARod's played out, Jeter is fading, Sanchez sucks, the Mets lol, etc. And Dwight would dwarf Lin in dollars, Lin will make most of his money endorsing random products on Chinese stations. No racist, just the fact.

  • I hate dwight. Such a whiny nerd. Your not funny either dwight. Dudes a cornball. Fans will always blame dwight for leaving. I don't get why he wants to leave so bad. The team he's on is pretty good

The team he is on is that classic team that will make the playoffs every year but has a snowball's chance in hell of winning a title. I think he's hilarious and cool. I don't think you or really I understand some of the frustrating factors in Orlando such as their incompetent GM Otis Smith.

Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter, Hedo....the guy knows how to add good but not great pieces.

  • Dwight said last night he wants to stay the rest of the year and give the fans hope, but the Magic have to "Roll their dice"? Huh, they have no dice. Its all up to him. If you want to give the fans hope just sign an extension. He has said some really dumb things this year. He is getting bad advice from someone

  • Dwight has done everything in his power to destroy his Mr. Nice Guy, fun and games image. His curtain call last night was the nail in the coffin. The Magic should "roll the dice" and keep him for the rest of the season with zero commitment from him in return? Then he goes so far as to imply that the Magic owe it to him to keep him for the rest of the season because he played hard every night so far? That's your effing job, homie and you get paid well to do it. DH12 says he wants to deliver a title to the town, LOL. Could he have said he is leaving after this year anymore clearly than he did after last night's game? He's acting like an ass. I'm glad to see the Magic have responded by telling him to commit for at least next year or they'll ship him out before this time tomorrow. If the rumors about Tyson Chandler and Melo for DH12 and Turk are true, I say take that deal. I'd even take Bynum for DH12 straight up at this point. I don't want the Magic to send him to the Nets, but if they do it sure as hell will be interesting in Orlando on Friday night when the Nets roll into town with DH12 wearing their jersey. That might actually pry me away from the NCAA tourney for a few minutes.

For sure. Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Magic players have spoken about this team meeting with Dwight and said that Dwight told them he is all in for this year. They said next year wasn't even discussed. A lot of smoke blowing around. If he opts in for next year, we will just have this whole thing to do over again. If the breakup occurs in the next day, or if he stays the rest of this year and walks in the summer, it will be a pretty ugly break up. DH will really be trying hard to surpass the scorn that Magic fans have for Shaq.

Shaq is just likeable, and most Magic fans I know blame the team for not wanting to pay him. When Shaq goes by my work, Magic fans still freak out like schoolgirls. I think DH will be treated much uglier by Magic fans, as clearly its his decision to walk.

Things in life are regrettable and I am sure he'll admit in an interview a year from now he blew it but he's from Atlanta, likely going to work in New York. He can never go to Orlando again for all he cares.

^This. I know the report was refuted by both sides, but if even a shred of the Magic offering him final say in any management positions is true, then that is absolutely pathetic.

maybe, but many athletes want to live in FL due to the lack of state income tax. Living in NYC full time will be quite a hit financially

For every penny you lose you gain one if not two. If you think going to the Nets will cause his yearly net income go down then I gotta ignore you. You can only do so many Disneyworld commercials.

  • I could be wrong, but I honestly think this guy will say anything to get what he wants. It seems to me that he was playing some serious chicken with the magic today, telling them he'll resign just so he can walk away at the end of the season. I find it impossible that someone could waffle as much as he reportedly has, I think its just a scheme to fool the magic into keeping him and get him to free agency, and he doesn't want to be rented for the next two months-he'd like to live in his own house too. Could you imagine if the Nicks traded Melo for him, then he walks away at the end of the season to go across town? Would kill this whole marketing scheme he wants to run.

  • I guess he's changed his mind again (for the best biggrin). What a circus. Now that it appears as though the Magic fan meltdown is delayed for at least another year it's time for us Magic fans to sit back and enjoy the Nets fan meltdown.
