He also said (per what was posted on another board) that Bama wasn't even trying to recruit him prior to his commitment to Auburn, yet there has been a check mark in his offer list from Alabama from the start.

A vendor I work with is a graduate of Pinson and is a big time Auburn fan. He told me last year that he wasn't sure if Earnest would make it in school because of his grades. This was before I even knew who the kid was. I have no idea if it's true or not. Just taking his word for it. Have you guys heard anything like this?

We haven't and this staff rarely takes guys that can't make it into school. I think we have only had 2 or 3 that couldn't make it in the last 3 classes. Not saying he isn't a grade risk but just coming from this staff I would be surprised if he was hurting that bad.
