Just out of curiosity, why do you view Romney as better than Obama? I'm interested in the perspective of a first-time voter, since almost every teenager I know who can vote voted for Obama.

I come from a hard-line conservative family. Portuguese/Italian mix, all practicing Catholics. I tend more towards the middle than my parents, especially in regards to the environment, but I still dislike Obama's positions on social issues, morality (abortion is a deal-breaker) and immigration.

I mean, it's no surprise that I support Obama. But it would never cross my mind to speak about a Romney voter like that. I just don't get it. I love the democratic process and the fact people have the opportunity to vote at all.

All I'll say is that I've gotten an infinitely larger amount of vulgar abuse on this board for supporting Obama than I've dished out to Romney supporters.

Should retired people be allowed to vote?

no. they are selfish assholes who only think for themselves as well. they dont give a shit about the younger generations. retired folks are the reason the education system in Florida is so bad. they are all out of staters and dont give a shit about the youg people

I'm in the real world. My entire family works, does well, and lives a good life. We all voted for Obama. Its not just the "welfare trash" that votes for Obama. That is an incredibly ignorant statement by whoever made it. Didn't check the handle.

It was user phillip740il FYI. Lots of gold to be had from him ITT.

I didn't, but it might just be the fact that I'm incredibly cynical for an 18-year-old. I don't like Romney much, but he's much better than Obama. Unfortunately people living in the right places don't agree with me.shrug

I'm 19 and I strongly dislike Obama, as I said earlier before a lot of people jumped in here. And same for me, being at Iowa, 90% of campus is strongly liberal. I'm not a huge Romney guy, I don't pump him up, I won't say he's great, but I'll stand up for him and I chose him over Obama because I actually believed he can do a better job.

i just worry about where this country is going. its going down either way but its in freefall with obama's worthless ass at the helm.

we honestly need to start over and reform the government anew but that will never happen

How? How is Obama worse than Bush when Bush is the one responsible for the poor state of our country right now? Trillions and trillions of dollars spent on the Iraq war when we should have never been in Iraq in the first place.

That is just the republican way, though. Big military, big business, and war. Has always been that way.

Keep in mind that I'm an independent. I really don't like either party.

No problem, ridiculous name calling is a characteristic of the small-minded.
Yeah...Mom's a hardline Repub and dad is a Libertarian with Catholic bent. Believe it or not I really hate Romney's (and the Republican party in general) position on the environment. Blatant hypocrisy. With regards to immigration....I don't like patently condoning illegal immigration like Obama does, but neither do I suffer from the conservative myopia that ignores the fact that we were all immigrants at one point. Allow more people in LEGALLY.

    /endrant.

Ok Bush gets a lot of hate but he had a great 1st team by all accounts and was a shoo in to win that election. His 2nd term is where all the disdain and regret about him as president came from.
