  • Back out here at Redondo Union HS for tonight's session. They're doing 7on7's now.

Hackenberg checks down to a wide open RB in the flats.

Luke Del Rio misses an open WR Downfield.

Josh Dobbs delivers a great ball on a 35 yd seam for a TD and follows that up with a very nice throw to fhe sideline.

  • Troy Williams- Washington commit- really continues to impress. Live arm.

The thing about Troy is that he's been on the radar for 2-3 years as a prospect. Sometimes those guys don't get a lot better because they are "there" so to speak.

    Troy has.

He has been better today. In fact, Trent Dilfer praised him a couple of times.

    Not his setting, though.

I heard he's been one of the best through yesterday and this morning

  • Brice Ramsey with a guy open downfield throws what would have been a pick (kid dropped it) in the flat. As he gains more experience, he won't make that mistake.

  • Who gets the honor of catching these guys passes in the competitive phase?

Not accurate at all. Don't know who said it or what they are basing it on. It doesn't mean he's not a good prospect, it just means he's not throwing it like the others. That's all this is about.

Local high school players usually. There is a D1 guy or two in the mix as well.

JC, did you get a chance to see how Jared Goff is doing?

Yes he's actually had some impressive moments in the practice sessions- good arm, quick release and good footwork. Looking forward to seeing what he does tonight.

  • JC - Any QBs performing well enough to move from a 4* to a 5*?

    JC,

You said this was not Zaire's setting? Can you elaborate on that briefly?

The better performers at this event are the more skilled passers. That's why it has little impact on our rankings- just one piece of the puzzle. We aren't going to make things up and make it out to be more than it is from that standpoint.

Not so far. I guess Hackenberg and Barrett would be the two best candidates.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

  • Of the dual threat guys here, ones like Woulard and Johnny Stanton have been better than Zaire to this point.

He's been solid- hasn't thrown very many bad ones but has not done anything eye-catching.

  • JC, as far as JT's performance so far would you say it has been what you expected, surprising, or disappointing? Thanks.

  • Lsu commit Anthony Jennings has been the best of this session so far...he made a nice throw on a 15 yd comeback, a high level pass across the middle where he fit it in a tight window, and a deep ball for a touchdown.

  • I know you are not knocking him as most say this isn't his or most dual threat guys setting but here are a couple of comments that I have read:

Malik Zaire, Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter: Zaire isn't the biggest quarterback out there, but he is one of the smoothest. He's good in his drops, always appears on balance and his accuracy was spot on most of the day. While he doesn't have a cannon like a few of the others, he can make all the throws and was one of the better quarterbacks.

    Mike Farrell ‏@rivalsmike
Early morning guys that impressed me at #elite11. Shane Morris, Etling, Goff, Troy Williams, JT Barrett, Browne, Kevin Olsen, Malik Zaire

    Mike Farrell ‏@rivalsmike
struggled in early session “@rb8100: @rivalsmike Johnny Stanton?”

    Mike Farrell ‏@rivalsmike
Why? "@AllTDoesIsWin: @rivalsmike Zaire? Really? I wouldn't expect him to perform well in this type of setting.”

Mike Farrell isn't a reliable source for objective analysis.

  • Kevin Olsen up now...this type of setting might tell more about him than most as he's somewhat restricted in his high school offense. You'll get to see him do more things that he doesn't have to do at home. He's been impressive thus far.

I know but I just find the differing views amusing just like with the difference of opinions on Taco Charlton at the Opening. I would assume the Elite 11 wouldn't be the setting where a kid like Zaire is going to shine. I'm not concerned with how he performs there because we know what we have coming in a Top 100 talent at a minimum if not Top 50(according to some analysts on both this site and others)

I'd be interested to see how Kelly tweaks his offense to a dual threat QB.

Just watch tape of Cincinatti with Zach Callaros as their QB shrug
