Emmit Smith

  • jmsmooth33 said...

If this is true than how come when he held out the Cowboys were 0-2 and couldn't do anything?

To be fair, 2 games doesn't mean shit in the grand scheme of things.

That being said, I am not one to knock Emmitt. Like I said in my last post, greatest vision of all time for a RB.

I don't understand you guys.. I can't stand the Cowboys but how is the NFL's all time leading rusher overrated?

That's why I was so appalled b/c people don't respect the all-time rushing leader in TD's and yards, yet everyone gives the entire credit to the O-line but when Smith held out we were 0-2 and not the same team..

It's the only empirical data I have that the Cowboys were w/o Smith, if I didn't mean anything Jerry wouldn't have caven in like he did..

He's certainly not a person to cave when it comes to other people's opinions for sure. I respect Emmitt immensely. I just don't think he's the best RB to ever play the game by far. I think he's top ten though.

I didn't say he was the GOAT just don't understand how people always call him overrated..

Yeah I don't think he's the best ever by any means but he sure as hell isn't overrated.

I agree and wouldn't call him overrated. I would actually call him underrated. I mean he's the all time leading rusher and doesn't get near the credit he deserves. Overrated is a stretch in the least.

Well I'm not a Cowboy's fan and don't know a whole lot of them. I can only go by what I hear personally.

Emmitt Smith is NOT overrated. He was a great RB. Watched him run for 220+ as a true freshmen against a Bama defense with Derrick Thomas. Also watched his high school film. Baller at every level he played.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

Are you asking about other RB's above Emmitt?

I would put OJ along with the three you listed as the top four

Personally I think the following are right about in the same category as far as rankings:

    Erick Dickerson
    Tony Dorsett
    Emmitt Smith
    Gale Sayers
    Franco Harris
    Ladanian Tomlinson

Earl Campbell needs to be somewhere in this list.

Also, though, like Sayers, his career was cut too short by injury, I will go to my grave knowing that, when healthy, Billy Sims was among the very best RBs I ever saw

    Same with Bo Jackson though.

Him and Herschel Walker were the best true talented RB's to ever play that I have ever seen. Bo Jackson was like Jim Brown IYAM had he not had that hip injury.

I know that Mark Ingram is young, but that is an insult to Emmitt.

Ingram is a 3rd stringer and will never touch Emmitt Smith as a pro player.

    LOL

    Lighten up.

That was a joke about all those national guys who couldn't talk about MI without referencing the Man, Emmitt. I hate the Gator but ES is one of my all time favorite players.

Don't take it the wrong way.

It's not like I'm pissed about it or anything. Just saying that Mark Ingram, love the dude to death, isn't anywhere near bringing into a discussion with ES. I do somewhat understand what you are saying though. Not the fastest guy, not the most athletic, he just gets it done. I wish he would have been drafted by anyone but the Saints though.

That pick never made any sense to me whatsoever. Put him on a team like the Giants, Cardinals, 49er's or a team that actually likes to run the ball, and he would actually be able to make some noise.

    Agreed.

In the right situation MI could have had a more Emmitt like career. Just wait till MI eventually has a big game. The talking heads will start bring up all the ES references again.

Stop with this homerism.. Ingram would not have a "more like Emmit career" on another team. He's a lifetime #2 RB

This is correct.. Obviously would have had the rushing record had he not retired.

Just take a look at his junior year at Oklahoma State.

    The GOAT.
