No biggie. I really like Brazil, especially with that XI and it being in their home country. Really like Germany and Argentina as well.

England's XI is solid, but young compared to most others.

Just a stat to throw out there, no team not from the Americas has won a WC that was hosted in the Americas.

  • As for 2012 it's going to be tough to hold off the Dutch. But I predict Spain win again.

Robben, RVP, Sneijder, RVV, are all in their prime. KJHuntelaar is an elite reserve. De Jong has played big time soccer for the last 2 years. Their fullbacks are weak though and their domestic league is well below the others.

Spain is just off the charts at G, FB, MF and they have options up top. They'll play a 4-5-1 and try to get Soldado and Llorente some unmissable chances early on to get their confidence up.

They're tied right now 1-1 with SK at HT. Not their A squad, but some are playing. Looking pretty solid. Torres is the one who scored.

I'm really hoping Hulk and Neymar don't rape us tonight. Our backline makes too many mistakes and we normally crap the bed with Brazil (even in friendlies). Hopefully this will bring down any egos that might have been stroked against Scotland. A one goal loss or a draw with Brazil followed by a win against Canada on Saturday would be pretty good going into June 8th qualifier.

Maybe but I was watching a few of there friendly matches and France seemed to have it all together and were playing very well. I watched the one against Germany a few EDIT: months ago (I think france won 3-2 or 2-1 cant remember) but the game was not as close as the score showed

Like fsufsu said, they are hitting their stride in respect to talent and age and I see them getting to the finals, but I really, really like Germany.

Even though it's not exactly relatable, look for the euro debt crisis storyline to echo into this tournament. If Greece,Spain,Italy do well and Germany,England,Sweden etc. do bad or vice/versa, I'm sure people will have a comment or jab at that.

Man.. I really hope so too. If we can go into HT with Brazil at least tied, we have a good chance of not getting raped..

IMO Brazil needs as much success as possible going into WC2014, especially after 2010 and Copa América 2011. Hopefully that success doesn't start tonight. biggrin

Well it's kind of embarrassing that the country that invented the game isn't always on top, but soccer is such a global game that it's not just technical skill or amount of talent that can tip balances, but geopolitical and economic changes as well.

I think that English fans overvalue their talent compared to how the rest of the world sees them.

None of them play abroad, they all play at home and while the EPL is one of, if not the, top league in the world, it doesn't seem to be helping.
