Who were the best Midwest LBers you saw this weekend?

Michigan State commits Jon Reschke and Shane Jones played well on Saturday night and Sunday night respectively. Both were flying all over the field and playing fast. The Spartans are putting together a really solid recruiting class, and I love the weekend additions of OT Dennis Finley and DE Demetrius Cooper. Cooper really shined on the camp circuit this summer and has a lot of upside.

University School LB Skai Moore dominated the game against Trotwood-Madison. Had a pick six and a punt block that was recovered for a score. He currently favors Rutgers over Vanderbilt, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him land a few more major offers with a big senior season.

Steve...one week in and already seen a number of games. Wondering if you could rank a top 3 or 5 of which college team's recruits had the best weekend?

I was so locked in to the games I was at, it's tough for me to tell.

Who are your top 5 midwestern teams after week one?

Just some teams off the top of my head that I know are really good are Cincinnati Moeller, Indianapolis Lawrence Central and Detroit Cass Tech.

Any news on Dorian Johnson? Has he announced a timetable? Where do you think he ends up?

He's focused on his season for the time being. I like Pitt over Ohio State right now, but we'll see what happens after Johnson takes official visits.

Steve, do you see Wisconsin being a player for any of the top 2014 kids? It seems they have been getting to the top 3 lately but never end up being picked. Also what are you hearing on the recruiting trail about the new badger coaches? Seems Bret did a great job so far.

Wisconsin's 2014 class is already off to a fine start led by four-stars Chance Stewart and George Panos. Too early to say how things will develop with out-of-state kids, but playing in two straight Rose Bowls has raised the profile of the program. Also, I think some of the new hires have done a nice job including Eddie Faulkner who landed Darius Latham among others.

Steve, what's your favorite color? And what 2014 top 100 prospects in the Midwest (outside of Ohio), do you see most likely to end up as buckeyes. Granted it is very early on in the process and everything is bound to get changed

Outside of Ohio, I think the Buckeyes impressed OT KC McDermott, LB Clifton Garrett, OT Mason Cole, WR Artavis Scott and OT Jamarco Jones. Not sure these guys will play at Ohio State but Urban Meyer and company have made an impression.

Hey Steve, what's up with Alquadin Muhammad? Is he still interested in Michigan, and is Michigan still interested in him?

Is Jabrill Peppers planning any fall visits for this year?

Hope married life is treating you well!

I don't think Muhammad is a priority for Michigan at this point. Notre Dame, Alabama and Rutgers are a few of the schools high on his list.

From what I understand in talking to Jabrill Peppers and his coach in the past, I don't expect him to take many visits if any this fall as he'll be locked into his new team. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he made it to a few regional games like Rutgers. Look for Peppers to get to several schools in the summer. I think Michigan and Notre Dame are two Midwest schools he's high on.

  • Are Malik McDowell, Parrker Westphal, and Damon Webb going to take their time and commit closer to their senior season, or sooner? Would they be considered Michigan leans at this point?

Steve, where do you see the 3 CT LB's ending up in college?

At this point the only one I can predict is Drake to Michigan State.

Hosey and White are still waiting on their first offers. I do think both are Big Ten caliber players.

With coaching turnover in the big ten/Midwest and recent troubles of some schools in the area with NCAA who do you see benefitting/making the biggest improvements in recruiting and/or talent.

With the exception of Penn State, I don't think the NCAA sanctions or coaching turnover has impacted the Big Ten/Midwest. Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame are recruiting well nationally. Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois, Purdue and Northwestern are bringing in solid classes.

At the Wayne State extravaganza, what were your thoughts on Khalid Hill? What role do you see him playing at Michigan?

Thought he played well. Loved him on the 65-yard TD reception. He took a short pass over the middle and raced away from the defense. He also did a lot of blocking for his team. I think he'll be able to be a factor in both the passing game and run game in Ann Arbor. He's a balanced TE.

Is legacy WR Jack Wangler getting any scholarship looks or walk-on offers, and is Michigan in contact with him? He'd be an awesome preferred walkon that has a lot of experience playing with Morris.

In talking to his Dad, from what I understand he'll have an opportunity to be a walk-on at Michigan if he wants it. He runs 4.5 with strong hands. I think he'll land an offer this fall whether it's an Ivy or Division-I AA or even a MAC. He's definitely an excellent high school player and will have a big year playing with Shane Morris.

Steve who's better Ohio State or Michigan?

My preseason prediction is Ohio State will beat Michigan in The Shoe this year, but I reserve the right to change my mind as the season develops.

Will Notre Dame continue to have recruiting success besides being irrelevant for a large majority of the lag 15 years?

Obviously the Irish program hasn't been what it's been going back to the 1990s, however there is promise there under Coach Kelly and his staff with their track records, and Notre Dame also offers plenty to a student-athlete off the football field so they're going to be attractive to a number of kids. Without the stats right in front of me, the Irish graduate nearly 100 percent of their players and nearly 100 percent of their African American players. Those stats hold a lot of water with many recruits. On top of that, the degree is prestigious.

Steve, why is OSU is having such a hard time landing OL? You can find a list of all the ones he missed on this year in this thread:

    http://michigan.247sports.com/Board/59424/Will-Meyer-be-left-with-scraps-at-OL-7966244

They have Evan Lisle and Tim Gardner in the fold with a chance to still land Dorian Johnson. Yeah they've missed on some guys but they still have a chance to bring in a really good OL class.

Ohio State was a finalist for several of the kids listed in that thread, but you can't win every recruiting battle.

Steve, how special of a player did Jalin Marshall look friday night.

Wish I would have been there, but it sounds like he was pretty darn good. He's obviously one of the best high school football players in the country. What he did last year against Colerain and in the opener this year against St. Xavier is stuff of legend. I'd imagine everyone in the stadium knew he was going to be running the football and he still gained a ton of yards against two of the Midwest's top programs.
