It's cool for 50 guys to gangbang a chick on the turf for a porno but another team using the field for a walkthrough doesn't fly shrug

Nobody cared at every stop we did it until UCLA said we can't do it, now its disrespectful? So when we stab the interlocking SC its disrespecting ourselves, got it.

Hey we let Oregon people throw O's and wear Storm LA shirts on our field. Disrespectful. Ban them from the stadium if they do it again.

The field walkthrough thing is to save the turf from dying like 2009

You can do whatever you want to your own field. I would be mad about that if I were an opposing player though. Can't speak on why schools haven't stopped this before.

Maybe your turf would be ok if you stopped sticking swords in it?

But our tradition is to do a walk through on Friday... We do it with every other team and no one seems to mind and I'm sure it hurts their turf a little bit.

Lmao if you got mad about that as an opposing player you're a big pussy.

Then again Oregon banned The Farm's band for making fun of loggers. Sensitive bunch.

    Amirite?

  • All jokes aside, you USC fans don't actually believe yourselves when you say this isn't a sign of disrespect, do you?

If so, what do you think sticking your sword in the center of someone else's field signifies? Is it not that it's your feild and you don't give a fvck about them? Because its pretty clear that's what it's saying. Pretty sure 50 years ago it was intended to mean the same thing.

So if after we just beat you guys if we went dancing on your logo no one on your team would be mad?

Never heard of the Stanford thing, but if they went out of their way to disrespect a profession because they know its prominent in Oregon I understand why they would be banned. Our band doesnt go to stanford and start playing the jeopardy jingle. Kinda bush league iyam.

Trust me I know a ton of my fellow fan base are huge pussies, and i know you are a good and respectful poster alonzo, but I don't get how you don't see the disrespect intended by sticking a sword in the middle of someone's field/logo, or at least understand how it could be taken as disrespectful.

Maybe because we've been doing for decades and nobody complained about it until the Bruin administration pissed and moaned like they're built to do.

Apples and Oranges with jumping on the logo after a win, don't know how you don't see that. It's not taunting, it's a getting ready for battle from a band. It's not stabbing the logo, it's stabbing midfield.

Does the rosebowl get pissed and complain when we stab the rosebowl logo? I'm sure were disrespecting the rosebowl logo when we do that.

  • lonz this thread is just another excuse for the usual suspect USC haters here to get their two cents in. I wouldn't have started the thread and I really don't give a shit whether He sticks the sword in the turf or not.

I hope everyone gets on board and stops all pre game traditions as derisive. No more flaming spear, no dotting the i in Ohio or War Eagle. Let's all take a sensitivity class instead of tailgating then hold hands and sing kumbaya before every game.

  • I don't really have a problem with what USC does as far as the sword spiking, but c'mon, of course it's about being disrespectful. If it wasn't you'd just spike the damn thing anywhere. Doing it at midfield, on the other team's logo, is a sign of disrespect. I figured that was the whole point. shrug

When this thing started, there were no logos midfield.

Also, doing it at home and at ND (no midfield logo) wouldn't make sense then.

The Trojan football team thrashed the Oklahoma Sooners 55-19 and The Spirit of Troy presented one of its best pregame shows ever, including the traditional "Fanfare," "Tribute to Troy," "Fight On!" and "Conquest," along with a special version of "TUSK." I guess it's not disrespectful when we do it at Notre Dame then. Amirite?

And it wasn't disrespectful when we did it in the 70's because noone had logos, but put some paint there and we're disrespecting every team we play, including ourselves when we play at home.

You're really comparing what TO did to what our band does. Didn't know our guy stabs midfield after touchdowns in celebration. Didn't know he only does it in one rivalry game either.

Didn't know TO did that to start an entire pregame show either. Good comparison.

Good job proving you can watch espn.

  • What USC fans are saying is....since they have done it for 40 years, that means its not disrespectful.

Its circular logic. It goes nowhere. Since nobody else has complained, that means it must be okay. But if UCLA complains that doesnt mean anything.

UCLA said dont do it....so thats all there is to it, no matter how many times USC fans try to pull out the idiotic "WE own the Rose Bowl" crap.

What gives USC the right to disrespect UCLA on its own field?

50 years of tradition doesn't mean a thing - if a new generation of UCLA fans doesn't like it, then USC needs to deal with it, not whine about a team no longer being intimidated by them.

This to a T. I think UCLA should start a tradition of dumping bear shit on the Trojans 50 yard line. It is a tradition after all.

    xxmgobluexx

  • Alonzo Harris said...

Not at all comparable IMO. T.O didn't do that every week before the game, and its not a touchdown celebration. He pulled that out of his a** against Dallas because of the rivalry and to taunt.

We do this every game as a part of our band's pregame show, even on our own turf. Its not taunting.

I mean USC can ban all cheerleaders from their stadium if they want to, but it wouldn't make sense. UCLA can do this all they want, it just doesn't make sense.

Looks like it isn't going to be a tradition any longer.
