FSU Bot Chairman rips ACC and talks big12

  • Florida State Board of Trustees Chairman Andy Haggard Warchant.com interview

    On the ACC new deal
"It's mind-boggling and shocking," said Haggard. "How can the ACC give up third tier rights for football but keep them for basketball?"
"It continues the perception that the ACC favors the North Carolina schools," noted Haggard.

    On big12
"How do you not look into that option," asked Haggard. "On behalf of the Board of Trustees I can say that unanimously we would be in favor of seeing what the Big 12 might have to offer. We have to do what is in Florida State's best interest."

On keeping up with TV deals
"With the SEC making the kind of money it does it's time to act," said Haggard. "You can't sit back and be content in the ACC. This is a different time financially. This isn't 10-15 years ago when money was rolling in."

    On role of Academics
"No FSU graduate puts on his resume or interviews for a job saying they are in the same conference as Duke and Virginia," he said. "Conference affiliation really has no impact on academics."

  • And there it is. "Exploring options outside of the ACC".

That's what happens when you have a commissioner that gets down on his knees for Tobacco Road.

Worse. Much worse. UNC, NC State, and Duke run that conference. At least with Texas you have a football school running things.

Duke and UNC run all over NC State in conference politics, I wouldn't be surprised to see NC State pack up and go to the SEC with VT if things start to unfold

  • That doesn't say anything about what the president and AD are doing. He's says they WOULD BE in favor of looking at what they have to offer, not that they're looking into it.

That's been the issue at FSU for years. The disconnect between the president/AD, and the BOT and fanbase. Look at the Bowden fiasco. It took a now shamed board member speaking out in public about Bobby for something to finally start happening. Even then the guy was blasted by a ton of fans and alumni. As it turns out, he was right, just like this guy is right. That said, if I'm FSU, I don't have any confidence at all in my powers that be, doing whats best for FSU. They took years to do it with Bobby, and they've already screwed the pooch during all this realignment going on.

no it doesnt mean anything is being explored for sure, but it does make other schools nervous. If VT reaches out for SEC I suspect the SEC would want VA/Nova and will accept them then look for another team either in NC or Maryland

Also lulz at you using Bowden ( a legendary coach ) and comparing that to how we might handle everything in the future

You are a total idiot when you try to troll FSU, you really need to retire from doing so

Are not Virginia Tech and Virginia basically tied together? Virginia assisted VPI into getting into the ACC from the Big East.

The B10 will take UVA. Miami too. We're looking to expand the BTN in the South.

    lol

UF makes half that amount on it 3rd Tier payout...8-12 million.

FSU should say censored it and vote to leave just like Texas A&M w/o an official invite..we know clandestine talks are going on via burners and Voip. lol

This "deal" only pushed them closer to the door. FSU, Clemson and Maryland should all leave. For some strange reason Miami will stay put.

GT was the more serious candidate last time around. They want Atlanta..I have also heard Maryland for big10 for DC/Baltimore. Also I wouldnt be surprised to see UNC and or Duke. I dont think big10 will go over 14 though

Duke and UNC will NEVER leave they are pretty much Texas of the ACC. I could see Maryland or even GT leaving at some point.

  • The North Carolina schools will never leave the ACC since they along with the South Carolina schools are part of the original members of the conference, but South Carolina left Clemson behind to become independent before joing the SEC.
