FSU Bot Chairman rips ACC and talks big12

Duke and UNC will NEVER leave they are pretty much Texas of the ACC. I could see Maryland or even GT leaving at some point.

    They are also inseparable.

GT was the more serious candidate last time around. They want Atlanta..I have also heard Maryland for big10 for DC/Baltimore. Also I wouldnt be surprised to see UNC and or Duke. I dont think big10 will go over 14 though

Georgia Tech is an odd fit. It's good academically and you are right about Atlanta, but it has a smallish athletic department and neither football nor basketball are really national brands. Miami, despite its current issues, makes more sense. And UVA is a great fit. If they continue their current upward trend in football and basketball, they might be a better long term play than VaTech (esp if VaTech stumbles when Beamer retires).

Duke and Carolina are interesting, but they sound very high maintenance (like UT and ND) and they only bring one new state despite adding two schools. I'm not saying the B10 wouldn't be thrilled to get them, because we would, but it's a much more complicated situation and for that reason probably never happens (see B10's perpetual flirtation with ND). There also is zero chance the B10 would let them keep any tier 3 rights.

UNC and Duke are national brands when it comes to Bball.

I have been all over and there are always UNC and Duke fans to be found.

Yeah and a lot those fans are like Kentucky fans. The majority of their fans only love the basketball and root for different teams in other sports.

Of course they are. I never said they weren't. But just like ND, they come with tons of baggage. My point was that baggage probably prevents a deal from ever getting done.

Edit: My point about Duke and Carolina only bringing one new state has to do with BTN. Pops are priced based on home base coverage area, so every new state the B10 adds is very valuable. That is all I meant. I did not mean that Duke and Carolina are not national brands.

  • Please FSU, anywhere but the ACC. Giving up third tier football but keeping b-ballls tells me their priorities. I'm not the "insider" or smart-guy that some of our home board posters are but we are gonna get left behind if something doesn't change. Gotta have $$ to compete in today's CFB landscape. I hate the ACC.

The B10 will take UVA. Miami too. We're looking to expand the BTN in the South.

This is what I want to hear. We need to start poaching the ACC.

I think Miami is way too far south. The only way I could see us adding them is if we added GT. If the ACC blow’s up I’m hoping for UVA, and VT.

Im so sick of the SEC. At first I didnt like the idea because fans would have to travel further to games, but it only makes sense. I mean how much further is it to drive/fly from Tally to UT or OU than BC or Syracuse. Big 12 makes sense for FSU. Even though we have been down our Bread and Butter is and has always been Football. Football will NEVER be the number one priority of the ACC. The Big 12 should make the first Super Conference and take FSU,Clemson,UM, and Va Tech. Before some of you tell me Va Tech would never leave UVA think again. This is a new era and there are $millions$ of reasons for them to do so. The ACC could then bring in the depleted Big East who might now lose Boise ST and have what they want. A poor football conference and an Unbelievable basketball Super Conference.

Read the first sentence. Then laughed at the butthurt. Then wrote thus response. I luv the SEC.

Not flaming but another fan base hanging on the sEc nuts. You'll be middle of the road conference team at best. Of course at least you're not in the ACC so more power to ya.

Hell yeah I'd love to be in the sEc. Much jelly. Just don't like fans who bolster there teams because of conference affiliation. The sEc is tops but all their members aren't.

The Sec would be my dream conference as a Nole fan, but I also know that they already have the Biggest Florida market in UF. Even though I think FSU would pull their weight and some. I could see the SEC targeting the Hokies over us to capture the DC market. Its all about money these days.

You think if this FSU and Clemson to the Big XII thing becomes a reality that Silve can convince the other SEC members to bite the bullet and add you guys because of the potential money to be made?

The big12 will use these comments to strike, IMO they will offer a fully vested membership from year 1- unlike TCU and WVU who have to be phased in at 50% first year 75%, 85% then 100%

Also they will loan and or give a big portion towards the ACC buyout. Once FSU has left the ACC they wont have to give "king terms" like that to anyone else because everyone else will want out ala the big east last year and will do what it takes

I hope so Eer. I read all the "stay in the ACC" posts and see no good points. I rather us screw up being aggressive than be left behind in the CFB landscape. Amazing how many folks think ND is our savior when they have no idea what ND will do. I'm all in for the B12.
