Sal is a good coach. You don't coach for years in the NFL and not know football.

You have to admit Tennessee's defense looked terrible. No one can deny that.

No doubt, but that probably had more to do with personnel and changing schemes than it did with Sal's coaching ability. Let's be honest, Tennessee's defense isn't exactly loaded with talent.

You know what, you're right. Let's judge a coach that has been successful for over 10+ years at multiple places by one bad year on a lame duck staff with average level talent. Seems right. Sal is a stud position coach and recruiter. Great pickup.

Just saying some coaches come in right away and make it work. UT fans have said this was the worst defense they have seen in a while. I mean people praise coaches for winning in one season and taking teams that suck and make them good so why can't people criticize a coach for taking the 27th overall defense and finishing 112th in overall defense. I guess you can't say someone didn't do well if they have prior success.... Because that makes sense. Fact is Sunseri had pretty much the whole defense back and they didn't do well. You can say it was because a whole bunch of different factors but the Tennessee defense was bad this year. No one can deny that.

  • I'll just never understand the knee jerk reactions people have about coaches. 1 good year doesn't make them great and 1 bad doesn't make them terrible. But it's honestly not even worth arguing...

That doesn't count, secrocks only looks at things from one point of view.

He went from trolling FSU losing coaches, to trolling who they hired.

Joker Phillips was a pretty successful offensive coordinator and his offense put up points with below average talent. When he became head coach it was a different story though and he couldn't devote every minute to what the offense was doing. And besides, Randy Sanders wasn't exactly a great offensive coordinator. Decent qb coach but bad offensive coordinator.

I think fsu has made two questionable hires in Pruitt and Sunseri.

Both hires will help in recruiting, as for them being questionable hires ? well almost every hire that has ever been made in sports history can be questioned to some degree. Its the nature of the business.

You do know Sunseri was DC at Tenn and is a position coach at FSU...

How does that follow different logic than your Joker reference?

I said they were questionable hires and Phillips has a proven track record. I will eat crow if Sunseri can be successful at fsu. But it does not look good when he comes out from Saban's shadow only to fall flat on his face. Time will tell ell.

And it is a different reference as Phillips had the whole team and program to worry about. Sunseri only had to worry his defensive players and recruiting and couldn't do it. Tennessee looked lost on defense and that goes to coaching as well as talent.

  • FSU has now hired the recruiter if the year of the past two years, which is sick.

As for his time as DC @ Tenn, I'm not too concerned because he's not our DC. he's a position coach. Comparing him as DC to being a position coach is apples and oranges. Comparing his past experience as a position coach to his current job at FSU is apples to apples. He is an incredible position coach and recruiter.

Another bonus of the past two hires is they are both very familiar with Jimbo's process and what he's trying to build and do since they all worked under Saban.

    GO NOLES!

Sal as a position coach is a homerun hire, no doubt.

I hope this comment is in support of the poster highlighted above. I have seen people do this - however I have the feeling your not. iWe within the Tide nation have seen what he can do - & seen how he recruits. He is OUTSTANDING! Sunsuri just didn't have personnel to run his 3-4 while ONE year at UT. I'll go to my grave fighting for this guy. He's a proven winner & even his kids (Tino qb @ Pitt & Vinnie @ 'Bama) carry with them the pedigree that makes their last name great & outstanding within college football circles. So I hope your in TOTAL support of his hiring

Sorry it was in reference to people saying Sunseri is a bad hire because of one year at Tenn.

That is either poor logic or bad trolling.

I think both Pruitt and Sunseri should be great additions.

Sal is a great hire, but they got those recruiting titles because of the brand and their boss. I wouldn't expect 5 straight #1 classes because of the additions is all I'm saying...
