FSU and Clemson to Big 12?

  • Pretty much choosing Tobacco Road and a basketball conference or Texas and a football conference. Oh and a lot more money in the football conference.

  • Hopefully it works out for you guys. Most of my family members on my Dad’s side are FSU fans so its always been a school I rooted for when my Wolverines aren’t playing.

I still have a feeling UT is going to go indy and leave all the other Big XII members to fend for themselves so they can air HS games on the LHN network, but who knows?

One of the options to this playoff is conference winners get the 4 spots. That could push ND into a conference, for sure. Delaney said he supports the conference winner playoff format. Big 12 schools are about to sign their rights away. Big 12 is actually starting to look stable. Add two schools like FSU and Clemson and it cements itself as the 4th conference for the playoff as the ACC will then likely lose 2 more to the Big 10.

I do not think any conference is going to 16 anytime soon.

  • ^ In response to MM, my quote function isn’t working

I don’t think the Conf Champ proposal is ever going to pass. Two of the biggest players in the room (SEC and ND) wont allow it.

And to be honest I would hate if they decided to go in that direction even if does negatively effect Michigan. IMO the only teams that deserve to be in a 4-8 team playoff are the top 4-8 teams. If a 3rd or 4th place SEC team gets in instead of us then so be it, and we didn’t deserve it.

  • At least June/July are right around the corner, so we won't have to wait long to see if this is all true or not.

I see what you're saying, and I agree in a way, but also disagree in a way.

4 conference champion playoff puts the top teams from their conference in a position to win the national championship. Bottom line. Biased polls have nothing to do with that. The polls will still say who goes to the BCS Bowls and other bowl games, but this is a pure way to have 4 deserving teams from great conferences have a chance to win it all. I like the idea of leaving biased poll voters out of the equation when it comes to the national championship. Win your conference, get a chance at the championship. Simple as that.

Now, lets say the Big 10 champ for whatever reason is ranked 18th. I think any team ranked outside the top 10 that wins their conference gets booted from the playoff, and replaced by the highest ranked team from one of the other conferences. While the 4 conference champion format would be a pure way, its not a flawless way.

Alabama went to the national title game even though they beat 3 teams with winning records and played a SOS in the 30's while OSU got left out while they had a SOS in the top 10 and beat better competition along the way. That is the kind of crap the 4 conference champion format would cut out.

Those are all good points but I still disagree with you. I understand the point of biased poll’s and voters but with all biases aside Alabama was a better team then Okie St. I understand the SOS argument, but as we all seen in the Fiesta Bowl, I doubt that a OSU team that barely beat a “good” Stanford team, and loss to Iowa State could beat or even hang with LSU or Bama. IMO the system worked this year. I guess I would have less of a problem with it if they re-seeded the teams but if not LSU would have been playing Bama in the semi’s(if the proposed top CC’s in the top 6 would have been used) which would have been unfair to both of those teams. Top 4-8 teams seems like a cleaner method IMO, especially if they fixed/tweaked the ranking system.

Screw BYU. Louisville and GT. GT would also open up the opportunity to have Atlanta as a rotational site for the conference Chmp game. The SEC hiked their leg and pee'd on that city a ways back but GT would enable the Big12 to get in the door.

Rotate between Jerry World, Superdome, Atlanta every 3 years.

  • I just read every post in this thread and got off at least 11 times.

I will be so incredibly happy if FSU leaves the ACC.

    Question:
Why are we insisting on bringing Miami? Why not continue to schedule them OOC and let the $ difference force Miami into a consistently mediocre program that we can beat down on yearly?

Does FSU want Miami to stay strong to keep Miami/FSU games a big TV/Attendance draw?

  • Why would FSU leave? Big 12 has terrible academics and its way too far away. Not to mention recruiting will be toast.

  • Well, you see ag, for schools that don't make moves to spite their big brother rivals and to get out of their shadows, it's all about money.

Why would FSU move? Simple. Money.

Too far away you say? Ask West Virginia how much they really care about that.

Academic incongruity you point out? The schools will be playing each other in sports, not having debate tournaments.

Any other brain buster questions or comments?

    Black Shipley

  • Oh, and I'll just note right now, that everyone should start paying attention to the comments coming out of College Station over the next several weeks. Delusion, confusion, fear. It's going to be lovely. You see, if FSU and Clemson join the Big XII (in addition to West Virginia and TCU) then the tired aggy line about the Big XII being a "dying conference that Texas ruined" will be viewed exactly as it should be: sour grapes bullsh*t from a cry-baby fanbase.

    Black Shipley

  • So basically the same stuff that's been coming out of Austin for the last year?

Only difference is, Clemson and fsu ain't happening
