FSU and the Orange Bowl?

  • Twitter is reporting that FSU has now offered half price tickets to boosters to try and get them sold. NoVa tell me this is not true.

    Here's the email the Booster Office sent me last week. They realize no one wants to actually go to this game and could pick up tickets for ≤$50 the week prior.

    The Florida State Athletic Department and Seminole Boosters recognize the current market for tickets to the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl and are joining together to offer 50% off loyalty pricing to all Seminole Boosters and season ticketholders.

    In an effort to reward our loyal Boosters and season ticket holders while still working towards meeting the department's goals of supporting FSU student-athletes and the athletics department, Florida State is offering current Boosters, new Boosters who sign up for 2013 and season ticket holders a special loyalty offer of 50% off an entire ticket order to the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl. Tickets at these loyalty rates and new Booster memberships are available immediately but only through the FSU Ticket Office by clicking the link and logging into your account with the above account number and the password that you have already set up at Seminoles.com or by calling 1-888-FSU-NOLE.

    Seminole Booster memberships start as low as $60 annually and qualifies new Boosters for this loyalty rate on Discover Orange Bowl tickets.

    Stubhub has tickets to most bowls at very good prices, vs paying face.

    Yes, it is a crappy opponent and that has some effect on tix. The last thing a big school wants is poor bowl travel. These days, though, bowls make more money on TV rights/markets than they do ticket sales. The local economy (of the venue) gets a hit from low tourism $$$, etc, but just as the internet changed markets, so have TV contracts for these bowls.
