FSU fans...Let's talk about Chris Black

  • I know you guys were after him and many on this board(and other boards) seemed to suggest he was rated too high. It appears he will have his RS burned this weekend and actually play for the first time this year in the SECCG. There is a lot of buzz among fans, beat writer, and even players about this guy and his skills. He seems to be a real star waiting to happen.

What was it about him that made you guys suggest he wasn't elite? I have seen you guys say that Amari was always considered one of the best prospects out of Florida that year and it was Black that was considered to be overrated. I was just wondering why that was...TIA

  • He is 5'11 at best, looks like a slot receiver, and players like him grow on trees in Florida.

I just think it was a case of butthurt stir

  • he was a really good player but he is a dime a dozen type of kid in FLA, Cooper on the other hand...

    FSUNole1

  • I guess we will see. He is slated to play in his debut this weekend. I'm not really getting my hopes up that he is going to show out in his first ever game but I don't think he would have his RS burned if he wasn't highly thought of by the staff. The expectations for this kid are becoming ridiculous with the buzz surrounding his debut.

    Fail, again

He was talked about by Saban in the same breath as Amari Cooper before the season started. Only a handful of players in the Saban era have ever been talked about like that and they have all turned out to be first round DP's. But I understand that he's yet another player you missed out on from Florida so obviously, like every other player, you didn't want him or he's overrated.

STFU because I am not the only poster from Florida who thought he was overrated. Also that i swhy the analyst finally dropped him down to a four star late in the process after they realized he was not a five star

    Saban's opinion > Duvalnole

lol. Seriously, have you ever been right about anything ever? If so, please provide a link because you are lying. You are wrong every single time. Every. Single. Time. In before Karlos Williams is better than HCD. lol

How am I wrong dumbass, because every analyst on here dropped Black. Even when he was thought to be a lock to FSU our fans were calling overrated

did you seriously just use analyst's ratings to defend your position regarding Black? He was still rated higher by analysts...do you agree with their ranking of Amari also?

I think you might want to back of the "dime a dozen" label at this point. There are people that are better when it comes to evaluating talent that seem to think the kid is dynamite. Using analyst's ratings isn't going to change that.

No I think Cooper should have been a five star in high school

  • Wow, I finally agree with weedline about something. If duvanole says the kid is not any good, he will probably catch 10 passes, score 4 touchdowns, and be named the most valuable player of the SECC

He wasn't anything special... especially for a Florida kid.

You don't have to agree but when someone answers a question with their own opinion try having a discussion about it. shrug

Because he was positioned to already prove you wrong as a true freshman before he got hurt. Now he is doing so well even after just being cleared from major surgery that our coaches think he can beat out Juniors and guys who have played a ton already. I mean, you fail, again, like every other single time you ever post on here.

And who gives a damn about the rankings? He was a highly rated WR by every single recruiting service out here. He was rated higher than Coop and Coop is better than any WR you guys have had as long as I can remember. That's not really saying much, but you get the point.

It's not my fault you are an idiot who like to run his mouth. One would think after all these years you would have gotten the message and learned your lesson by now. But you never do. Ever. You are incapable of forming an arbitrary opinion about football and take everything personal for some reason. A player doing well from Florida not at FSU? Has to be a conspiracy. Kid is overrated and not that good. It's one thing to be wrong every once in awhile. It's an entirely different one to wrong every week.

  • Also, the CEO of this site we're all posting on has been raving about Black for the better part of a year now. Call me crazy, but I think I'll listen to him. He is usually right about these things.

Once again you are wrong, because Coop is not better than any receiver to come through FSU since we have had mutiple All-Americans come through our program. I am sure your dumbass heard of a fellow Alabama recruit named Lawerence Dawsey who is our receivers coach and was an All-American. How about Peter Warrick, Andre Cooper, EG Green etc.

I am having a discussion about it. I didn't attack anyone's opinion. The only thing I will take exception to is when someone throws out the "analysts dropped him so I was right" line...the kid hasn't even played a game yet so we don't know who is right. There are people around the Bama program that disagree with the idea that Black "isn't anything special". I figure it will be next year when we really find out but I can tell you that Amari seems to think highly of him...this was posted on our board from Coops twitter:

    @amari_coop2- Chris black sick man!!

No, I have never heard of Lawrence Dawsey. I just googled him and saw where his is 44 YEARS OLD and played in the 80's!!!!! lol. No, I do not remember those days. I'm not 70. I was 7 years old when he played. LMAO.You guys had one decade of relevance and I was too young to remember most of it. Sorry. Why are we talking about his again? What does it have to do with you being wrong about Black and everything else?

You are taking this as a flame when you shouldn't.....

The 10th best WR out of Florida on any given year is still pretty dang good in the right system.

I didn't take it as a flame. I usually wait for a guy to play or at least arrive on campus before I make any judgement about their skills or potential ability. I have been pleasantly surprised with Cooper as I didn't think he would be this good. I'm just shocked that Black is back in the mix and expected to play in his first game after sitting the season with an injury. I thought for sure he was a RS all the way. The feeling is that he must be incredibly talented and considered a special talent to burn the RS when we have other WRs that have contributed this year that can fill in. I was just wondering what the disconnect was for the Florida(FSU) guys.

I just think it is a telling sign that Bama needs help at the WR spot.

We have been injury plagued at the position this year. He doesn't play unless someone else goes down IMO.

I thought so also but it is looking more and more like he very well is going to play. He is taking reps at the Z position behind Norwood which was previously occupied by Bell. I thought he was a slot guy all the way. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Understandable.... Wasn't meaning my statement as a flame.

I didn't take it as a flame. I was just pointing it out because we're painfully thin. We lost Kenny Bell who rotated with Norwood and Woodson. Problem is Woodson is also hurt, DeAndrew White is also gone for the season, so we have to move Black from the slot to back up Norwood. Not ideal but we need bodies at this point.

I just went back and read the notebook and I agree. The scary part is that we will have 3 true freshmen, and a RS freshmen, in our 2 deep.
