Family Vacation -- Cancun -- Need Advice

We're heading to Cancun in two weeks. Lived in Kansas City my entire life. Worth it to do a couple weeks of tanning, or not?
Edit To Add: I'm okay with opening myself to a couple of gay jokes, so long as I get a few legitimate responses.

And for my serious answer. Get a good base tan, that way you can enjoy your trip without being blistered the whole time.

If you are interested in a little sude trip that is outside the normal Mayan Ruins stuff there is a place north of Cancun called Isla de Mujerras (Womans Island)
Never been myself but a guy that workef for me us from there and I have sent a few people there and they loved it
