Fans backlash to Florida's soft schedule

  • The 3rd cupcake looks like it is catching up to us. First there was the embarrassment of large patches of empty seats for the UAB and Furman games and now we've slashed the contribution required and are still having to beg people to buy tickets. hmm...maybe if we had more real games instead of having almost half the home schedule be glorified scrimmages against cupcakes.....

    UF tells public there's plenty of football tickets available

    The University of Florida is practically pleading with fans to buy Gator football tickets.

    Susan Crowley, UF’s assistant vice president for community relations, sent an email today to let members of the public know that tickets are available. The University Athletic Association is fighting the perception that there is a waiting list to purchase season tickets, she wrote.

    “We are looking for your assistance in helping us spread the word that season and single game tickets are available for purchase,” she wrote. “A filled Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is very beneficial to all of us including the business owners of North Central Florida.”

    The effort comes in the wake of a season in which UF failed to sell out its first home football game, breaking a 137-game sellout streak at the Swamp, along with two other home games. The athletic association opened the sale of premium tickets to the general public before last season for the first time since 2004, and took longer than usual to sell out the Florida-Georgia game.

    Season tickets can be purchased for a $175 per seat contribution, plus the $280 cost of the season ticket, according to a message from the athletic association sent with Crowley’s letter. Details can be found at Gatorzone.com. This year’s home slate includes games against Louisiana State, South Carolina and Southeastern Conference newcomer Missouri.

  • I don't mean this in a bad way like it'll be taken, but it certainly doesn't help the outer skirts of the UF fan base that typically fills those seats is kind of front running. By that I mean they don't take well to not winning 10+ games every year.

    Even Spurrier admitted after the Redskins debacle it was time to leave UF when winning 10 wasn't enough.

    Then again, it could be economy/scheduling. We sold out more when we sucked. Now the top corners on our visitor side is empty unless it's a big game.

    Ours only lasted that long cause of who was the coach

    Basically what I was getting at, just treating it with kid gloves to minimize the "oh yeah, well your opinion doesn't count because your school's history sucks" responses.

    Not many places are as crazy as the state of Alabama and to a slightly lesser extent Georgia where they could have a 6-6 roster and still show up every week expecting 12-0.

    Im against them though, hate watching them until the second half when the freshman play

    Games are a total waste and like u said they aren't even money makers

    Its just a way to earn some victories, and if fans could truly understand how stressful these jobs are they would get it and stop bitching and crying about it

    2010 - after 1 cupcake we played OU and got DP'ed 47-17

    2011 - after 2 cupcakes we then went on a 3 game losing streak

    2012 - ...... Hold on to your butts!
