Favorite classical music?

I'm not really a connoisseur of Classical pieces, but as a musician there are certain selections that I really respect and do enjoy. My absolute favorite is commonplace, but I still love it. That said, my vote is Beethoven's Piano Sonata in C-Minor (Moonlight Sonata). Something about that piece is haunting yet provocative.

i listen to opera more than anything at this point, but i do still listen to a ton of classical.
that being said, i think my favorite non-operatic piece is Adagio for Strings by Barber.

Aaron Copland is my favorite American composer (hell, maybe my favorite composer period). Love "Fanfare for the Common Man", and of course "Appalachian Spring." He also wrote the score for the film Of Mice and Men.
Another great piece that I absolutely love is John Williams' "Air and Simple Gifts" that he composed for President Obama's inauguration in 2009. It features Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma. Interestingly enough, it also features elements from Copland's works. I remember watching it and the song brought tears to my eyes because it was so hauntingly beautiful. Anyway, here it is:
