Hopefully one of these days I can make it out to Florida. For an out of town fisherman where is the best place to go to get in the most variety?

The Florida Keys have the best variety by far. The Dry Tortuga's and the Islamorada Hump are musts. It's an amazing place, but it's different than an Old Florida feel.

I was thinking of the Keys as well since I can get in some fly fishing as well.

Islamorada Hump sounds amazing. Amberjack and Wahoo are ones I want to cross off my list.

AJs are ball busters. Catching 1 is fun, but when you realize you can't really eat them it sucks. They are aggressive as hell though. We anchored up on a wreck in 100' of water and had around 200 AJs under the boat. Had them jumping out of the water by dangling a live blue runner just above the surface.

  • I live 5 minutes away from Lake Guntersville and I fish quite often. Lake Guntersville is one of the top 5 or so lakes in the nation for Largemouth Bass! The Bass fishing is simply amazing down here right now, I've caught several in the 5-7 pound range in the last couple of weeks!

  • Mobile Bay is on fire .

with bad weather projected , three of us set out on an early A.M. run (in my 21xp)
and in just over two hours we filled 'the box' w/ the prize catch being an 8.7 lb spec .

    third straight 'box-load' outing coffee

  • Grew up in the west central PA and fished the Little Juniata religiously but moved to the Colorado mountains for the fishing and the hunting. The Blue River is now my home river but I fish the Colorado, the Arkansas and the Platte plus all the small tribs and head waters. Venture out to Utah a good bit to fly fish as well.

Why can't eat you eat them?

AFAIK, Amberjacks are called Kampachi in Japanese. I've had Kampachi multiple times at sushi bars.

    Lots of worms.

The shoulder meat on the smaller AJ's may not have them, but it's still hit and miss.

They are good too eat but I just release them because of the potential of having worms.

Good to know. I guess it is the same thing with Halibuts and Salmon Groupers in So Cal.

  • I usually try and fish for Redfish in the brackash and inlets around Beaufort, Hilton Head, Bluffton, Savannah

Cobia are running right now and I have seen a lot of people catch some monsters. I have never fished cobia until this year and we didnt have any luck on our first attempt

They should be heading to their offshore grounds very soon. Once the water hits 80 degrees they will be in 100 feet of water 15-20 miles out.

  • I live 30 minutes from the Saginaw Bay in Michigan. Pretty great walleye fishery. When I want my bass fix, I go up to Traverse Bay in northern Michigan for world class smallmouths. I caught a 5.5 pounder that was under 20" last summer! Thats a monster for a smallie. But my favorite fishing is crappie fishing right here in central Michigan. Ice fishing is a great winter activity too.

love Saginaw.. been there a few times.... back in the day when Smallie season was closed my dad caught what would probably still be the state record (over 8lbs) and he brought it back to the dock, during a MWC wally tourny and he held it up to some friends and the photographer and he threw it right in after that and the camera man said he woulda gave him 5 grand for a pic of it.

  • Little update from the Missouri River: Went out fishing today with a few buddies and about 15 mins in we had to get about 7 more people to come out. Got out there at 315 limited out by 345 for all of us and decided to stay out and catch some and have fun on a beautiful high 80's day. I'd say we caught around 55 to 60 walleyes most being around 14 to 17ins... all the keepers we kept were the tasty 15's and 16's. Skipping 2 hours of school tomorrow to head up on the big lake with a few buddies. I'll post an update tomorrow night

  • I fish the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay nearly all year around. I don't get out as much as I used to with 2 small kids but the oldest is about to be able to start going with me and fishing for real.

The Bull Reds are hitting hard right now on the Shore Flats and the Eastern Shore barrier islands. Blacks are in the 2-30 foot depth over near the E Shore. Flounder are starting to hit near the islands with the big ones about a month away. A few Cobia have been caught in the Bay already by the chummers but I'll wait until I can see them on the top.

Spade Fish will be out at the Ches Light any day now, anyone catch these before? Lb for Lb they are about as strong as you can get. And they taste really good.

Do you fish in Maryland or Virginia? I have been thinking of looking for jobs in that area if I leave florida after school. Just want to live someone near some decent fishing. Where I used to live up north in South Jersey the fishing is pretty weak
