Five Southeast Sleepers

As is the case every recruiting cycle, the Southeast is loaded with talent and that means there are always “sleepers” that emerge. Here's a look at five of them.

  • Wake Forest sure do love those St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra kids

  • Another kid in the ATL Metro that may deserve a little more attention from schools:

-Kamani Thomas, 2013 RB, East Paulding High School, Dallas, GA

Thomas ran for 1,900+ yards as a 10th grader in 2010. Coming into the 2011 season, he was the top rated RB in Georgia for the 2013 class. Yes, ahead of Tyren Jones and Alvin Kamara. He suffered from turf toe during the 2011 season among other injuries and only had 800 yards and although he attended the Rising Seniors All-Star event he was unable to play due to injury. Saw him at the the gym I attend several times this 2012 Spring/Summer and he told me he was healthy.

Thomas has 1,549 yards on 166 carries (9.33 yards per carry) and 13 TDs for 10-0 East Paulding so far in 2012 as they enter Round 1 of the Georgia 5A Playoffs as #3 ranked in the state for that class. The East Paulding team looks as good as the area 6A teams like state #1, 10-0, and national top 15 ranked Lassiter and #2 Norcross (Alvin Kamara, Myles Autry)

9-0 East Paulding played 9-0 Allatoona for the Region Title last week. I didn't attend the game but watched it via On-Demand and Thomas looked explosive/fast. Finished with 133 yards and 1 TD but would have had close to 200 as an electric 60+ yard run was called back due to penalty.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

  • Terrence Summers attended our 247Sports Southern Elite Combine in Oxford last summer and was by far the best defensive lineman there. He whipped a couple of SEC committed offensive linemen in one-on-ones.

    David Johnson

  • Channing Stribling, or is he a deep sleeper?
