Five countries you would most...

  • want to visit. Or if you have already been to some list your favorites. And list why you want to go or why you liked the place.

    Me:

United Kingdom- I am a huge history nut would love to go back as an adult and really take in the historical landmarks

New Zealand- Largest most remote islands on earth, snow capped mountains next to the sea in the middle of the South Pacific, so unique would love to see

Italy- same as Britain, only haven't been.

Kenya- Kilimanjaro and Victoria Falls, large animals, safari

Argentina- the opposite of how most people view South America as being. Patagonia and very European like culture.

Honorable mentions: Brazil, India, France, Ecuador and Micronesia (not a country though)

  • Most of the places I'm interested in aren't very hospitable to Americans.

North Korea, just because it'd be fascinating to essentially travel back in time, along with observing one of the most elaborate personality cults ever.

Iran - despite their government being a terrible scourge on the earth, the Iranian people are tremendously friendly and welcoming.

Syria - really the same as Iran; pretty much impossible to visit now though.

    Egypt - Pyramids and such.

Sweden - big weakness for Swedish chicks.

Awesome. We went to Samburu, Masai Mara, and Amboseli. Got to see the Great Migration while in the Mara. Should be on everyone's bucket list IMO.

Yeah the Pyramids would be nice, but not really a great place to be. Damn Egyptians have ruined Egypt, lol.

Did you see Victoria Falls and Kilimanjaro? And how weird was it to just see giant animals on the side of the road?

My parents went again and they visited Victoria Falls. I was jealous. I didn't go up to Kilimanjaro but it's on the edge of Amboseli (right there on the border between Kenya and Tanzania) so we could see it from our camp and while out on safari.

Yeah if I ever go Florence will be the main target, then Rome, then Venice. I know a few people who have been and none were overly impressed with Venice.

Seeing it would be good enough to me, going on it seems like a lot of work. Victoria Falls would be more interesting probably.

  • Top five places I have visited
    1) Kenya & Tanzania- It literally is like you walked into a show on Animal Planet. It is so beautiful and I am a huge animal person. Loved it so much the ex and I almost bought land there to build a vacation home.

    2) Egypt- When I was younger I wanted to be either a marine biologist or an Egyptologist. I love everything Egypt and my visit there did not disappoint. It was amazing to be cruising the Nile and listening to the Muslims calling their followers to prayer as the sun set.

    3) Australia- If for some reason I could not live in the US, I would live in northeast Australia. Diving the Great Barrier Reef regularly is something I could get used to.

    4) Italy- Great shopping, culture, food, scenery, and people.

    5) France- same as Italy with the exception of the people.

Honorable mentions - Israel, Belgium, Austria,

Five places on my list to visit:

    1) Hungary and Czech Republic- I have been told that Prague and Budapest are two of the most beautiful cities in Europe. I am planning a river cruise down the Danube later this year (hopefully) and will include these two countries.

    2) Thailand

    3) China

    4) Japan

    5) Peru- I have always wanted to see Machu Picchu.

  • Switzerland is hands down the most gorgeous place I've ever been. The view from the bathroom window at the inn where we stayed was was looking straight out into the Black Forest. We took a ferry ride out on Lake Lucerne & a gondola ride up to the top of Mt. Pilatus. It was covered in snow & was insanely beautiful. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

In Italy was it more of a cultural experience for you, or did you really get into the historical sites like the Forum, the Coliseum etc?

Simple answer. Why Chile? Not really anything of note there compared to the rest of that continent is there?

Both. I went to an opera and every museum that I could find while there, ate constantly, and shopped until I was broke, but I also loved all the history. The first time I went the ex and I would just leave our hotel and head in a different direction each day. I remember the first day walking through the city...just like any city that I have ever been to...and then we rounded a corner and were looking at thousand year old ruins. It just blew my mind. If you have never been Pompeii is really interesting. The general layout of the city is still apparent and some of the stores are partially intact. The pharmacy is next to the brothel, which I found to be thoughtful planning lol. The first time I saw Pompeii I had taken my mother and my very proper, Catholic grandmother. When we stood in front of the brothel with the intact mosaics that depict the sexual position performed in the different rooms, I thought I was going to die of embarrassment.
Everyone knows about the David and the Pieta by Michelangelo but there is a small church, San Pietro in Vincoli, where Michelangelo was commissioned by a pope (cannot remember which one) to do a huge monument. He and some of his best students sculpted it but in the middle of it all is a sculpture of Moses by Michelangelo that is one of the most beautiful objects I have ever seen.

  • 1. Australia/NZ - Been number 1 for awhile, stupid plane ticket prices.
    2. Brazil - Would love to go the WC, but not going to have the money at that point.
    3. England - Seeing an Everton game is my current top sports bucket list item.
    4. Italy - Really want to try the food.
    5. Some safe African country - really want to go on a true African safari.
