  • Bell and Fuller are well deserved, glad to see them get that 5th star. Can't say much about Bigelow or Willis, haven't seen much, but I will join the chorus of LOLs at Lawson.

Bama fans are gonna be mad about Lawson being a 5*.

Who cares? We all know some Auburn fans get upset when Alabama commits get a ratings bump as well. We'll see how good of a player he is in 2 or 3 years. He may be an all American or he may be a bust. Who knows?

Based on what, that he's going to Auburn?

It was said tongue n cheek, but those 2 guys are dumb. They're going against the grain of pretty much all D1 coaches in the SE and the networks. Guess they should be doing evaluations for a living, ay?

    BBD is anything but dumb

This was just a small adjustment expressly for the purpose of adding five stars. Dawson and LTT both could move up or down slightly based on camp showing, but I would not expect anything dramatic. We had Dawson reasonably high to begin with and have always believed he's one of the best in the country. On the flip side, it's hard to drop LTT based on a camp or two unless there was something we saw with regards to his overall athleticism that make his upside less significant.

These guys- Fuller, Willis, Bell, Lawson, Bigelow- were all in the discussion prior to this move. Camps just answered some questions for us or in some cases, went against information we previously had (like Lawson's true height).

    Thanks, JC. Much appreciated.

4* or 5*, I couldn't care less what he ends up as. I am just glad he is committed to Michigan.

It's the fact that there's people judging this kid with zero credentials to do so. It's just idiotic, but humorous. These rankings are pretty null anyways, until 2-3 years down the road.

I believe a staff member mentioned that camp performances account for 10% of a recruit's rating. If that is indeed true, can you give us a breakdown of the other 90%? I think it would help people visualize these adjustments better.

Right! That's why I say who cares. If his production on the field this season doesn't live up to his ranking, I'm more than willing to bet JC, Barton, and the rest of the staff will reassess his ranking. Until then, it is what it is.

Washington and Michigan competition are comparable.

If you use NFL players per capita or the total number of NFL players, there's a slight difference between Michigan and Washington.

lol No. He is a camp phenom that disappears in games when it counts, IMO. I have seen him play in 5 games in person and have never seen him really jump off the field, which you would expect when everyone else on his team would be lucky to get star #3.

If you were implying I am mad he isn't at UGA, that was never going to happen. We never had any interest in him. His dad was a Nerd, he wasn't going to let CL come to Athens.

It doesn't hurt, BLF, regardless of who it comes from. Figured it was only a matter of time before they responded to one of us because you know he has been getting inundated with questioning emails. I expressed the same view to Kipp when the ESPN rankings had him at #5. He asked us all almost the same question, lol. I think most analysts at this point realize there is a disconnect between his ranking and analysts thoughts and what many (non-barn) fans following recruiting see him as.

I think he is Luc Redux, as far as how his play will correlate with his ranking when the dust settles. Maybe a bit better, but JMO.

24/7 admins are about to be riddled with e-mails from bama fans about how AU is paying players and how Carl Lawson being a 5* is a sham. You guys shouldn't have done that. Now your lives will all be hell.

I missed the part as to why any Alabama fan would care? They have multiple 5*'s and will end up with more. I think they have bigger and better things to concern themselves with.

There are plenty of very good high school football teams that don't produce guys that go on to the NFL. Using NFL players to measure the difficulty in competition at the high school level is a poor comparison.

You must have missed the Carl Lawson thread started by a Bama fan about how a person stated to have seen him in person, but didn't really see him as he just read about him on BamaOnline, and wasn't impressed.

    Pretty entertaining thread.

Bottom line JC and others have to live with the laughing stock that will occur in 3 to 4 years when random posters ask what happened to that jacked dude that signed with AU. His current critics will just answer "exactly what we expected".

The "measurables' factor is ruining how scouts are valuing high school athletes, but that's a long boring conversation that I don't want to start. I'll just say it makes a high school talent scout's job very easy when all they have to do is say 6 4" 250 with a 4.5 and he has a six pack! WOW! 5*
