There being more to a football player than muscles.

Yeah I agree. That's why I wrote his film is great. Nobody at 247 was "so blown away by his muscles" that we moved him to five stars. :-)

Actually we do not think you are paying players at this point as the spot light has been too bright and with the team you fielded last year you do not have enough money anyway.

The whole SEC is under scrutiny. I think the entire conference is about to get slapped hard by the NCAA.

lol No. He is a camp phenom that disappears in games when it counts, IMO. I have seen him play in 5 games in person and have never seen him really jump off the field, which you would expect when everyone else on his team would be lucky to get star #3.

If you were implying I am mad he isn't at UGA, that was never going to happen. We never had any interest in him. His dad was a Nerd, he wasn't going to let CL come to Athens.

It doesn't hurt, BLF, regardless of who it comes from. Figured it was only a matter of time before they responded to one of us because you know he has been getting inundated with questioning emails. I expressed the same view to Kipp when the ESPN rankings had him at #5. He asked us all almost the same question, lol. I think most analysts at this point realize there is a disconnect between his ranking and analysts thoughts and what many (non-barn) fans following recruiting see him as.

I think he is Luc Redux, as far as how his play will correlate with his ranking when the dust settles. Maybe a bit better, but JMO.

You are entitled to your opinion but when you watch the film, the kid is a player. I understand the Jeff Luc mention because of the "phyisique talk" you could even throw James Wilder in there, but Lawson is a different prospect than those guys.

    Could play either IMO.

No doubt. Thanks JC. He'd be a bully at the LOS against WRs.

I respect the fact that you guys have to cover a ton of kids and evaluating is a hard thing to do.But from every site and review that has come out Chris Hawkins has dominated the spring tour on the West coast.Winning MVP's at probably the deepest DB camp of the year the NFTC LA.He has guided his B2G team to numerous wins and a pass is rarely caught on him according to all reports. At the Nike event that he earned the Opening invite he was said to be a better pure corner back than Willis. So my question is how is it that you guys have 10 corner backs ahead of him and he isn't even in the top 100.The stars don't matter but not even in the top 100.Wow.He is in the top 100 on every publication that exist. What is it that you don't like about him JC.megaphone

We have him ranked appropriately for a player with his size and ability. You ask what we "don't like" about a kid well inside the Top247- the answer is "not much".

    I know.

It was said tongue n cheek, but those 2 guys are dumb. They're going against the grain of pretty much all D1 coaches in the SE and the networks. Guess they should be doing evaluations for a living, ay?

Watch your mouth...I've got about 5 people that post under this handle...

It happens. They have this timetable of when they want to release new rankings. Then a kid blows up at a camp or two against good competition. Some just to raise them immediately like ESPN did. Some wait until their next announcements like 247 did. Then others (Rivals) see everyone else do it and figure they must be right.

I'm creating a site that just takes the avegage of everyone else's ratings. I need no overhead, no staff member, no nothing. Just a subscription to each. I will be banking!

That's a great site, followed it on draft day..

I like how Thomas Tyner goes down with a good breeze, but he is still a 5*.

Against Oregon high schoolers no less. Love to see him run for 2,400 yards and 33 TDs in Georgia's largest class and lead his team to the state championship game.

Kid got injured again during track season this Spring. Great measureables.....but not an ELITE RB.

Kevin Durant is moving up in my favorite All-Time Athletes list. Mama raised him right.

bigwilly and bamaborndukie are not gonna be happy about this.

I really couldn't care less. If 247sports wants to hand out rankings based on camps....That's their problem.

I will advise them to check out Lawson in person before they "crown him".

If you read their reasoning behind moving Lawson up, it had nothing to do with camps.

Appreciate you answering all the questions and your honesty.Last one if he was 10-15 lbs heavier with his height would that be a factor for him moving into the top 100.Or is his skill level just not good enough. Thanks JC you always keep it 100 as we like to say.

Looks like three of the four recruiting sites are going to disagree with you on Lawson. Guess I will just have to take their word over yours on him.

Well obviously Tyner won't have the opportunity to run against Georgia's largest class. Not sure why the negative chat on this thread about Tyner. He is 6' 200 lbs., had a great junior football year and he ran the 9th fastest 100 meters in the nation as a sophomore. He's had a tough Spring with injuries. Not sure what qualifies you to say he's not an elite RB or others that probably have never seen this kid compete.

Well that settles it for me.

All colleges should take back their offer.

In regards to Lawson, if you went to a HS game where a 5* player was playing, would you not expect that he would sort of standout among all the other players of lesser caliber? Not in one game because anybody can have a bad game...but over 4-5 games he has given no memorable moments to say, "Wow, that kid is special"...Seems intuitive to me but hey I guess there is a reason why I don't work for 247. Again, has nothing to do with him being offered...the kid is big time D1 potential for sure...but 5 star which is a comparison vs other players is up for debate. Nothing more nothing less. Again, go back to my starting question and tell me your answer.

  • Tyner is a good RB. You have no clue whar you're saying. Kid is 6'0", 205+ lbs and runs a 4.38 40. The kid has good cutback abilities, can take contact because of his size and can leave defenders in the dust. He's not as fancy as some backs in his highlights, but if you know how to evaluate talent then you can see he's a good even great RB. He doesn't dance around in the backfield and run back and forth which some people think is what makes a good back. That stuff doesn't fly in D1 college football. Tyner makes one cut, maybe two and b-lines it downfield with his elite speed. No fancy hoopla. One cut....he's gone and nobody's catching him...nobody. You'll see what he does at the UO. He'll be another great back to come from Oregon. Wait and see.
