Five out of Six….Aarrghhhhhh

  • Just checked my lottery ticket this morning. I got all of the numbers, EXCEPT for the Mega Ball.
    Winning numbers: 23, 46, 38, 4, 2, 4 and Mega Ball 23

    This was my very first lottery ticket. I have never purchased one before because the odds at one in gazillion so it seemed like a waste of money. But for a half billion dollars I could not pass it up.
    I don’t know much about numbers or the lottery, but I do know two things:
    1. The odds are against you.
    2. You have to hit all of the numbers.

    I was very excited until I got to the very last number, that damned Mega Ball.
    Rather than put the ol' lady through the same brief anxiety with a major let-down, so I just threw it in the trash. No need to keep a reminder of how close we came.

    Lesson learned and it only cost me a dollar.

    More believable if he hadn't added he knows you have to hit all of the numbers. Then the picture of the worthless ticket with a newspaper to prove you won nothing is just over the top.

    This is different from state lotteries....you have to get ALL of the numbers. I wish it was not that way, but it is.

    Are the prize payouts the same in California as they are in other MEGA Millions states?

    The jackpot prize for MEGA Millions is the same for all the states. However, in California all other prizes are pari-mutuel, meaning payouts are based on sales and the number of winners.

    Thanks Abe, but from what I understand, the rules are different for this Mega Super Powerball Lotto or whatever it's called. In order to win, you have to hit ALL six numbers.

    As mentioned in the OP... I threw the worthless ticket into the trash (probably should've recycled it...), and it is long gone w/ the trash man this morning. I didn't want to put my old lady through the same anxiety I went through... she'd have a panic attack.

    I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I'm quite sure you have it all wrong. I wish it weren't the case, but I'm almost positive in this lottery I would've needed to have ALL the numbers.
