Florida's Sharrif Floyd adopted by the man who gave him benefits

  • Interesting to say the least it looks like USA Today is trying to assume that Ronald Powell, Dominique Easley and Western Kentucky safety Jonathan Dowling could have receive illegal benefits from being on a Yacht with Sharrif's new dad.

Florida's Sharrif Floyd adopted by family that gave him benefits

The case played out like many other NCAA violations. College sports' governing body found a football player had accepted impermissible benefits and he was suspended. What came next, though, was highly unusual.

    No doubt.

It's not like they did something serious like trade a jersey for a tat.

I think the USA Today is trying to fish for a story. Does it look shady with Floyd yes, but he ran it past the Florida Compliance.

The media is running with it because it throws up a red flag when you are talking about a man that his own school in South Carolina disassociated him, and you are talking about lavish trips, 2012 Explorers and Yacht's.

One thing that is interesting is that it could create NCAA Loopholes and theirs nothing they can do about it.

Yeah but you can't lie. It's a real grade school mentality with that set of rent-a-cops...do what you want and if you are honest and don't make our jobs hard, we won't take your entire recess away.

USC and Ohio State both got harsher penalties because of their approach to the investigation. Makes no sense, but the NCAA is run by self-serving academics who have little concept if the real world or common sense.

In fact, I would not be surprised if someone somewhere in that organization had a cultural bias against tattoos and was out for blood regardless.

I wouldn't characterized OSU's approach to their investigation even remotely close to USC's.

But at this point, that's neither here nor there.

Yeah I know the story there. The guy has always just tried to help kids and Sharrif didn't have much of a home life.

I respect a guy like this who is independently wealthy with a big heart much more than some of the clowns who insert themselves in players' lives for selfish monetary gain. I mean, Kevin Lahn is a multi-millionaire. He's not worried about Sharrif Floyd supporting him one day.

What's funny is some of these cats that are in it to make a buck are so ignorant about the sport (take the guy that was "helping" Bryce and Arthur Brown, for example) that they end up hindering a player's development and thus cost the player $$$ in the long run.

So you think it's ok for millionaire boosters to "help" these kids as long they don't monetarily gain from it. As if that would be their only motivation.

    Oh man, that's rich.

I would buy it if he "helped" those who do not have NFL contracts in their futures. He may not seek monetary gain, but is certainly seeking status among future pro athletes.

    Correct.

USC honestly felt that it did nothing wrong and the admin didn't know anything about the situation.

tOSU knew about it, lied about it, and tried to cover it up. And still only got a slap on the wrist.

    Not getting into it.

Like I said, it doesn't matter at this point.

nope. Still an athlete. There are thousands, and thousands of kids in need, who are not athletes.

What's his motivation with the homeless Nigerian basketball player playing at a community college?

Wtf? You can't be serious. He can't adopt every kid in need and just because he plays a sport, you don't buy it? This kid has zero shot of going anywhere in basketball.

I don't know all the details, nor really care that much about it. Just seems extremely fishy to "adopt" a 20 yr old football star.

  • Why would anybody adopt a 20 year old man? I can see maybe if there was a physical/mental disability involved but wtf is there a need in this case?

That's why this has raised some eyes.

Floyd is 20 going on 21 about to be a millionaire. You have people who are married by that time, been shot at in combat, already rasing a family.

One thing that stood out was the wife saying that he doesn't like to be told no, and that's what the NCAA did.

My theory is some of these college kids even though they are on scholarship are broke as hell. I think Floyd was struggling down at Florida, he reached out to the man and he couldn't help because of the NCAA scandal. Came up with a loop hole that the NCAA can't do anything about by adopting him, and now Floyd has his 2012 Explorer and Apt.

You think once Floyd goes pro, he'd be be more likely not to end up broke by hanging around this guy or his biological family that didn't give a crap about him?

It's not like this kid was 11 years old and in a bad situation.

Leave him alone?? He has a FREE education and ALL the good food he wants to eat. Kid is a man. He's 20. Make decisions on your own.

NCAA should bring down the hammer on Florida for this....

Worst opinion ever. This is illegal and a sham....this school should be blasted. I can't believe a writer would say leave these kids alone....They were given a million more opportunities than I could've ever had.
