Fox News culpable for some of y'all's anguish

  • Is Fox News the equivalent of a yes man? They pretty much have been telling conservatives what they want to hear (I realize msnbc is the antithesis of fox and does the same for libs. They just happened to have been on the winning side). Placate as well as agitate the right. To me it is akin to relying solely on your mothers opinion on how attractive you are.

Anyone can say anything anytime, with different emphasis, anywhere. I dissagree that Fox & MSNBC are both in the same dogmatic camp. It's just simply a difference in opinion

Curious is all. Do you feel misled by Fox News concerning the most recent election? Saw several posts as well and had several real world conversations(including one at my voting precinct in Baldwin county Alabama) with people who believed that Romney would be president. They said or implied it was a foregone conclusion, citing Fox News.

Great response . Ok, I retract that statement. You saw I deleted it. Heh heh. Again, influence comes from peers, media, parents, ads, trends....& I know you know that, still too early early in morning to be philosophical

Your life consists of absolutes, I see.. Could you not write in a vote? Seems like a waste.

I definitely do. Some of the programs I watched on fox made it seem as though it was a foregone conclusion that Romney would win. I am done with Fox News bc they were just so wrong I can't even begin to listen to them anymore. I will say that this does t mean I am moving to CNN, I will simply read my news and formulate my opinions instead of letting pretty women tell me what will happen.

Completely understand. I woke up late and have been playing a bit of catch up myself. Actually thought it was gonna be a slow day here at work but things seem to be picking up.

Interesting that you say that. My father inlaw was an editor at the local paper. Paper was bought out and they gave him a choice, write opinion news for clicks or take a severance package. He took the money. He said something about having integrity and how it's important to get the story right, yadda yadda..

  • Networks are like investors - they are biased to their investments. If all the networks did was just report the news like robots - nobody would watch.

ESPN pimps the SEC - they have a contract
NBC pimps ND - they have a contract

Analysts tow the company line and attack the opposition to appease to their audience. If foxnews kissed obama's ass like MSNBC does - they would lose the conservative audience.

MSNBC tells people they are glad Hurricane Sandy hit & make fun of paralyzed people. I watch Fox News occasionally but I knew Obama was going to win. Thankfully, I think for myself.

Should probably make a petition a bout, eh? I'm kidding.

So, I'll put you down for no.

I definitely felt like Obama would win however the last minute news coverage by fox got my hopes up only to be completely wrong. I understand pandering to your base but they were so wrong it just pissed me off.

I agree. Most people can and have figured this out. Just was wanting to hear from the "fair and balanced crowd" on how they felt after this particular cycle. Do you feel mislead? Do you think Fox News actively worked to mislead or manipulate people or their opinions? If so can I sue fox for false advertisement and should we assign an asterisk to all things reported from fox?

I feel it was more wishful thinking than manipulation.

I'm 32 and have voted in every election since 98, midterm and presedential(and as many off year elections as I know about). I don't waste my vote. I choose not to vote for any Dem, because in any cruicial vote they will vote in a way that isn't in my best interest. If the Reb is a douche, I leave it blank(and 95% of the time that Reb has lost).

It's cool man. I understand. I'm more interested in disputing foxs claim on fair and balanced reporting. Your vote is yours and you don't have to validate it to anyone.

  • More than just Fox News, I think the entire right-wing media bubble is to blame for a lot of the anger following the election. With Fox News, Dick Morris, Karl Rove, and UnskewedPolls, there was this entire alternative reality constructed in which Romney was ahead in the polls. Every commentator kept predicting Romney victories, and many predicted landslides. There wasn't anything beyond gut feeling to back up any of this commentary, but it was parroted everywhere.

As a result, people who mainly get their news from conservative sources existed in a bubble in which everyone was predicting a Romney victory, and any dissenting voices were quickly dismissed as ridiculous. This led to the entire backlash against Nate Silver, as the best model for election prediction tilted more and more in Obama's favor. Obama's chance of winning as calculated by Silver went from around 75% to over 90% in the two weeks leading up to the election, and this was simply unacceptable to those existing in the bubble created by right-wing commentary, hence the efforts to dismiss him as a kook.

While I still think there would be anger, I don't think the vitriol would be nearly as intense had Fox and other sources simply accurately reported the polls and told the public that any of their predictions of Romney's victory were nothing more than gut feeling. By giving their viewers a false sense of confidence in Romney's victory, Fox assured a massive letdown on election night.

I disagree. It is different. Obama was running for President. Fox News is a self professed news agency that reports "fair and balanced information"(or so they say).

Considering it was Romney himself who said "Binders of women", that wasn't inaccurate reporting. Pretty much everything that came out of Dick Morris' mouth leading up to the election was wildly inaccurate.
