GT to Big 10?

  • Rumors swirling on some sites that they could be moving. Anyone with GT connections know anything about this? If this is true some heavy movement is fixing to go down.

  • I hope this happens. Clemson,FSU,Miami,NC State and Va Tech would all bail on the ACC imo if this happens. UCONN, Cincy, USF, UCF, and someone else would then probably be put in the ACC.

Delany = genius. Add GT. FSU, Clemson, Miami and Louisville to the Big XII. NC St and VT to the SEC. ND cries, gives up and joins the dark side.

    I could see that happening

  • GT would potentially give the B1G exposure to Atlanta area which would be huge.

Its not a matter of people liking GT, its getting B1G network pushed into that area which benefits the B1G. More $$$$.

Notre Dame will never join the B1G.

(If that's what you meant by dark side)

They will have to decide if they want their football team to be playing 4 games against the former Big East/CUSA and all of their other sports teams to be marginalized even further.

Are you guys hearing anything about the Big XII yet?

  • Yes! Destabilize the ACC!

You'll be disappointed there but its still a good addition. With Big10 money Atlanta can make a good basketball hire and be a top 20 BBall program almost overnight.

I think in one more year they should hire Bruce Pearl.

I don't think that's relevant at all. The games will be on TV, kids will here about these B1G teams more often just because GT would be playing them.

Just because no one likes GT doesn't mean they it won't benefit the B1G playing games in the ATL. Kids will see these teams more often, and thus be more likely options when it comes down to them choosing to their schools.

Won't help you get top kids in recruiting. Maybe guys the top programs in the SEC doesn't offer. GT doesn't have a big presence in terms of fanbase either.

Any exposure whatsoever will help the B1G with the top guys down there. Sure it's not going to be easy walking into SEC territory and getting a stud, but having a small presence there is better than having none.

I'm well aware GT has a limited fanbase and is not a great football team BTW. But I think they have potential to be a good basketball program.

I'm not saying Michigan or other B1G programs at going to walk into ATL and start landing the best kids easy. But I do think having some games on TV and hearing about us a little in the papers is going to do nothing but help us.

Sure the majority will stay in the south, but even if it helps the B1G land even a couple players it helps out.

  • I think the Big XII is doing something behind closed doors. I just want to see the Big XII go after FSU, Clemson, and Miami. I would like to see if they can possibly get BYU, and Boise State into the Big XII as well. The Big XII is going to be very interesting when this conference expansion is done.

If you were going to get them, you'd probably get them regardless of GT being in your conference.

If you think about it, the Big 12 and B1G raiding the ACC could actually backfire. Most of these kids parents can't afford or won't be willing to travel that far west and north to see their kids play almost half of their games.

You're totally right about exposure and recruiting. I am just agreeing with the other poster that GT doesnt move the needle in or around ATL. Maybe in the future.

Yeh I agree about GT obviously having no real effect on kids. It's a Dawg state, not naive enough to ignore that, and a southern state as well. Just some inroads are better than none at all.
