I won't waste my time on the books then.

  • From what I understand George R.R. Martin is very involved with the series. I will tell you that it has been a while since I have read the books. I read a lot so after a while things run together. Aussie might be able to correct me if I am wrong about the series following the books closely.

  • I heard that The Game of Thrones is around 700 pages, and the shortest of the series. Is this true?

  • I do not remember it being that long but I love to read so..... If it is that long I will tell you that you get so involved with the characters that it does not seem that long.

It is 807 pages and is the shortest of the series.

As far as the following closely to the books so far it was pretty close.

Very good guess. First episode was pretty good.

Haha, I nailed it. Seemed like the logical event to end with. I really liked the acting and overall quality of production.

For those of you new to the series the first few episodes will be a little slow setting stuff up and introducing characters. But, after that buckle up because it is going to be a crazy ride.

wow..im diggin it. Some pretty f'd up stuff going on. For those who have read the series, is the show following the book like you thought it would?

It's pretty spot on. The books have 4x the detail, and go into more back story and history, which would be impossible to do in the show. The best part about the series is the enormous level of detail that GRRM put into developing the history of Westeros. You could spend hours learning the history of everything.

    Great start to the show.

Well said. I've read the first 2 books, my gf hasn't. I convinced her to watch episode 1 and it was kind of funny, because I'm thinking about how much is being left out and she's still trying to figure out which kids belong to who. Solid beginning though. Looking forward to the whole thing.

Would watch regardless, but I have a knack of finding tv shows that will only stick around for one season.

I'm rereading the books right now and this is an accurate assessment. All the major plot points seem to have been hit so far, just huge amounts of detail are lacking that would be impossible to fit into a t.v. show that anyone but the most hardcore nerds would watch.

One thing I really liked about the show was it didn't seem like any of the time was wasted. With so much detail in the book that is a must. For instance without trying to go into spoilers the scene where John talks to his uncle and Tyrion then joins John is a mix of numerous plot lines. It also helped flesh out the back story of two characters. All of that in one scene. I can see how it could be overwhelming to someone who has never read the books but I hope non-readers keep watching so the show can keep airing.

  • I didn't see Rickon though...was he in it?

Gonna be great...for those not familiar with the books, bad things happen to good people lol. good things happen to bad people, everyone in the series can die at any time.

viserys great casting, snotty little asshole.

Danearys...chick looks the part, want to see if she can become as bad ass as she is in the books.

    Robert character is great.

Tyrion (my favorite character) is great.

Alot of jumping around so I had to fill the wife in on the connections...that the Targaryens were across the sea in exile, their family used to rule, etc....

two beheadings, an incestuous doggy style humping, the wolves, and a 7 year old getting thrown from a window and she is hooked lol!

Rickon is in the beginning, watching Bran shoot the target. He's sitting on a post or something, laughing. I think you see him twice for a total of 7 seconds or something.

I hate Theon Greyjoy. They definitely got him pegged. Overall I think they did a very good job with the casting.

Agreed. I thought they nailed the casting with Arya, Brandt, Viserys and Tyrion (my favorite character in the books along with Sandor). From the previews Littlefinger looks dead on too. The only character I'm not sold on so far is Catelyn Stark. Anyways, loved the first episode aside from the awkwardness of the wedding in Pentos. I also wish they could of included the scene from the book where Joffery and Robb (at least I believe it was Robb) were sparring.

Doesn't the sparring happen while the men go out hunting? Did I miss that part? Only complaint about the first episode is that it covered a TON of ground, so for us that have read the book it felt rushed a bit.

Also, I thought the Others were supposed to be White, and there's no wight girl in the opening of the book.

SPOILER - DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BOOKS 1 and 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok; the only thing that missed the mark was the opening sequence; it made them look as if they were hunting the wildings just outside the Wall. In the book, they're 8-10 days away from the wall. This is a big deal, because the whole reason Benjen goes looking for Royce is because he's been gone a long time; if he's only a half mile from the Wall, his/the other guy's body could be found easily. Considering Ben Stark's disappearance is the main catalyst for the expedition North of the Wall, it doesn't make sense that it looks like Royce is within shouting distance of the Wall.

    Complaint over.
