  • I just started reading the books, and I wish I had read them first. I already picture the scenes before I finish reading them. I would rather have had my imagination be lead by the books, not the movie.

So how good are the books?

    Are they well written?

Or is the Author just pumping these out nonstop like Stephen King?

He pumps out 1 book about every 5 or 6 years. From what I have found out, a lot of fans are upset that it takes so long between books. I think there are 5 books with the first written around 95.

The books are very detailed and very well written. The show is doing a very good job of telling the story, the books go into a lot more detail. I'm only half way through the 4th book right now. The amount of characters in the books is amazing and quite a few of them have background stories as well. Also during a lot of the books there are snippets of the history of the world.

If you like the show and you like reading you will enjoy the books.

They are good. Frustrating, but good. Every chapter is written from a Character Point of View. So one chapter will be from Jamies perspective and the next Jon Snow..etc.. it is interested to hear the thoughts of both sides and what their real plans are. And in that champter you only see and hear what they do. Books 4 and 5 are written at the same time line but with different POVs so you eseintally read the same events from different perspectives in that one. Book 6 should be coming out withen a year or so.

The first 3 are the best so far.

    On Jamie
as Lord Stark said. he has chosen his opponents wisely. All of his great victories are tournaments or backstabs. Robb Defeated him in the field. His dad would have with ice if he was not stabbed in the leg by his guard. He is a tournament legend. A 5 star camp QB who is not as good on the field if you will. I have read all the books and that is always how i took him. Yes he is feared, but it is his reputation and confidence that scares people more than his skill.

Most of his repuation comes from being the youngest kings guard..a honor he received because that mad king was angry with his father and wanted to take his aire to his lordship. Kingsguard cannot hold lands

Jaime was ambushed and as it said in the books he cut through a lot of guys before they took him down.

I believe even Robb Stark basically admits that he would have lost head to head.

As far as him and Ned it is possible that he would have lost.

He wasnt really ambushed as much as he was tricked. They knew he would be too stupid to and go trying to play hero through the woods. It was planned and they caught him exactly as they knew they would. He cut down men as they tried to take him alive. A spear or arrow could have done him in at any moment

Yeah true. I still think he would have best Robb head to head. Robb is still pretty damn young in the books.

Maybe I am just a Jaime apologist.

Jaime's about the only one though. There's a part in the 3rd book where he lists all the men/knights in the 7 kingdoms who are physically stronger than he is. That list goes:

The Mountain Robert Baratheon in his prime (who's stated is about 6'6 and killed Rhaegar Targaryan by hitting him in the chest ONCE with a warhammer, while Rhaegar was wearing armor) Greatjon Umber

That's it. Jaime is supposed to be somewhat of a physical freak himself, though more in terms of reflexes than raw strength, but he's pretty much top 5 in Westeros in terms of physical strength.

I would think the Dog would be in the conversation. He is just short of the Mountain in strength.

A total tough guy that is who

Plus the majority of people can't even hit him cause its a death sentence so he could be 58-0 before you know it so long as he picks the right battles

He is also undefeated against babies

    No.

Jaimie Lanister was probably the top knight in the Westeros at the time of book 1. Knight of the flowers, and the Mountain are close. In his prime Ser Barriston Selmy was better than Jaime. Authur Dayne likely the top knight ever since the Targ's took power.

Jaime would have cut down Ned.

Bron is a bad motherfvcker. But IMO the baddest is Sir Barriston Selmy. Dude is in his 60s and could still merc half the realm.
