Agreed about the opening sequence. In the book the others kill Waymar Royce while Will(I believe that was the younger rangers name was) was in the tree trying to see where the bodies went. He stayed in the tree for a long time. When he came down he was killed by Waymar Royce when he turned into a wight. I know it is not a big deal but it still bothered me.

This isn't ruining anything since it's mentioned a few times in episode 1.
Jon Snow is Ned Stark (Lord Stark)'s bastard son. He's about the same age as Rob Stark, who's Lord Stark's oldest "true-born" son.
Each area of the realm gives a "nature"-based last name to bastards. Thus, bastards in the North are called "X Snow", in the lower lands they're called "X Rivers", in the mountains "X Stone", etc. etc. etc. Its worth paying attention to who's a bastard and who's ot.

Loved the first episode. Very excited for the second.
In the trailer, I saw a character played by the same actor that played Mayor Carcetti in The Wire. Is his character in this series a big one? I loved the job he did with Carcetti, so I have high expectations. Note: I did not read the book.

Not very far. I have read both series and I think Fire and Ice is the better series. The Dark Tower is still great though.
