Game of Thrones: Please Check OP Before Posting ITT

When they say this is fantasy what do they mean? Are we talking Lord of the Rings stuff or are we talking Odyssey stuff?
Trying to decide if I should invest my time in watching these since they are all on my TV on demand.
Thanks and sorry if this has been covered in the 5 pages, but I imagine that there are a ton of spoilers in the 5 pages if I do decide to watch it.

Its been said that it's Lord of the Rings meets Sopranos. It's definitely worth your time.

I ordered them for iBooks. Been reading on my iPad/iPhone. I am a little bit further than the current episode. I am glad I am reading the books. Would recommend...

Agreed. Also as the seasons progress (or you get further along in the books) there are a ton of characters. It might help you keep them all straight if you have already read the books.

They have already ordered another season so I imagine that will get rid of some of the worries of them forcing a bunch of it into the last 5 episodes.

hmmm...I have read the books several times and don't remember Loras and Renly having a gay love scene....did I miss it in the books?

I never did either but I am on another board and we talk about the books all the time. They are the ones that pointed it out to me.

I think it was a situation where HBO wanted more taboo sex. GRRM had already (as Aussie pointed out) hinted at the situation so he probably agreed with the mind frame that you have to choose your battles. Of coarse he has incest as a central theme in his books so what is a little gay sex thrown in?

I was thinking they moved very quickly to get to this point with 5 episodes left. I think they're going to do the last 100 or so pages nearly word for word, so they kind of needed to rush to get there.
Wish the season was 15 episodes long instead of 10. So much is being left out (and it's STILL a great show).

Just finished Game of Thrones..wow. Nothing is safe or sacred in this series..Im about to start Clash of Kings today. For those that have read the complete series what were your favorite books out of the four? Im pumped for the new episode tonight..the show is really starting to heat up.

July I believe. Martin actually said it is finished. Maybe after five years I will finally get to find out what happens next.
