Unfortunately, I've come across some spoilers that speak of the same thing you're speaking of. frustrated

That would suck. Martin did a great job in the books of making every scene potentially game changing. The show can't quite capture that but it does a decent job. If it got spoiled for you waiting for it to happen just isn't the same.

Yep..great episode. That was the only episode this season written by George Martin. Kind of disappointed they cut out the blackfish..figured he would at least escort caetlyn. I figured it would end in a different way....

Well, he's got to show up at SOME point, probably soon.

Solid episode, putting everything in motion for the final 2 episodes. I thumbed through the book, just to check the pace; there's only about 85-90 pages of material left, so I wouldn't be surprised if the final 2 episodes are from the book word for word.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • ok for someone who's been following the series and hasn't touched the books, let me get this straight:

The Lannisters Army is divided right now. Jamie controlling one part moving in what direction? where is his goal he's trying to reach?
His father is controlling the other heading to meet Robert (Stark's son).

Robert has all the, they called them banners, that swore allegiance to Winterfell and Ned (not the king or the realm?)

Don't understand those 2 points right now.

    carte090

  • Jamie is control of an army that is marching on Riverrun which is the where Catelyn Starks family the Tully's live.

Tywin is close to the trident at this point I believe but I can't remember for sure.

Rob Stark has called his bannermen ( which are other powerful families from the North that have made a pledge to help defend Winterfell.). I don't think it has said on the show where they are marching yet. I don't want spoil anything.

ok so Jamie is marching on Riverrun b/c of Catelyn Stark taking his brother? and Tywin is marching in another direction for the same reason? just trying to understand everyone's motives and where it is they are ultimately trying to go. Yea understand not wanting to share too much b/c it may give plot points away

    carte090

  • Tywin is basically just waiting. He isn't marching anywhere right now. He is waiting to see what Rob Stark is going to do.

I've got your back. Check out the map for details.

The "North" ends where the Riverlands begin, somewhere in the "middle" of the continent, where the landmass narrows before spreading out into the Southern Half. The Tullys, Catelyn's family, control that key area, putting a buffer of Stark Allies between the Lannisters and the North. Factor in the Eyrie, where Catelyn's sister controls, and it would seems that the Lannisters would be taking on 3 of the 7 powerful houses by themselves. That said, the Tully's aren't the best group of fighters around, and the Riverlands are spread out, making the individual keeps and settlements hard to defent.

That's why this week's episode was so important. When Catelyn's sister refused the Starks the Eyrie's help, that eliminated a strong contingent of warriors to take on the Lannisters. While the Northmen are making their way down, Tywin Lannister sent Jaime to raze the Riverlands, keep by keep; 1/2 the Lannister army is probably less than the entire Tully force, but like I said, the Tully's are spread out, allowing Jaime to take them out between 100 and 500 at a time, instead of meeting a force of 10,000 (approximate).

The plan, I believe, is for Jaime to eliminate the Stark's best ally's with minimal casualties, then allow an equal force of Lannisters to meet the Stark host on an open field, where the thought is Lord Tywin's experience in battle will give him a decisive edge over young Rob. The Starks are currently faced with a decision; to go after Jaime and try to save the Tully's, or go after Lord Tywin, who's sitting there with less than a full force. They are currently North of "the Twins" controlled by Lord Frey, a bannerman to House Tully, but one who doesn't always respond to his oaths in a timely fashion (That's the "Late Lord Frey" reference in the tent). In order to go in either direction, they need to cross the river, and the only way to do that is through the Twins; a pair of fortresses on each side of a massive river bridge.

    Hope that helps!

Anytime. Love the series and have read the books, so holler if anything doesn't make sense! No spoilers in there, but there's always going to be stuff between the lines that's hard to pick up unless you've read the book.
