  • He finally got TCU in a BCS league I doubt he'd just up and run out on them like that. Especially seeing how TCU's road to a BCS bowl would probably be a lot easier than one at Arky

    Wishful thinking by Razorback fans. They have to face facts that Arkansas isn't an elite SEC job, so they're not going to pull a guy like Patterson from an already-established program. IMO, they're better off going after a high-profile OC or DC.

    Time for some wishful thinking on my part, but I think it'd be interesting to give Pat Narduzzi a shot as an HC.

  • A lot of times coaches move for things other than what we all talk about on the surface. In this case, it could be something that happened recently on a university level that rubbed him the wrong way.

    And just one opinion, but Gary Patterson is a damn good football coach. Would be a quality hire for Arkansas - from a pure football coaching standpoint.

    He could also be getting his name out there via Arkansas for other jobs that could come open like Auburn and Tennessee as well, IMO.

    I don't know how far things went from TCU's recent off the field issues, but something could have happened during those issues that he didn't like as well.

    I don't know. I would wait and let TCU actually win in a BCS conference before I would agree to that.

  • Arkansas has more money and way better facilities. I don't understand how this would be a lateral move. You people who have never been to Northwest Arkansas can't allow the national perception of the state to assist in your opinion of the university. Yanks.

    Not really. What Arkansas has in money and resources, TCU makes up for in location and recruiting base. Arkansas will never be more than a middle of the road SEC team in large part because they have no in state recruiting base, and they're about the 6th or 7th option for kids from the other states they do recruit. TCU has no such issue. They've been able to recruit well against every regional power they recruit against, outside of UT. For that reason alone, I'd say the ceiling of both programs is fairly similar.

  • I agree with most of what you said. But the 6th or 7th option? Come on man. Dallas is a huge alumni base. Kids grow up watching the Hogs. Arkansas needs to hire a coach with Texas ties for the reasons you stated.

    Lived in Dallas all my life. I assure you the Arkie following is pretty minimal up here. There's some but its relatively small compared to the others, outside of maybe TCU.

    Then why are they stuck at #46 in the recruiting rankings and why was last season's #31 finish the highest they've had in recent memory. Argument doesn't hold water.

    I don't see the evidence to back that up.

    This season (2013), theire highest ranked commitment from the state of Texas is #31 in the state. Baylor, Texas, OU, aTm, Ohio St, Oregon, USc, Alabama, Washington, Texas Tech, and Notre Dame have higher ranked players from Texas.

    In 2012, #20. FSU, Texas, Baylor, aTm, Oregon, Texas Tech, and LSU had higher.

    In 2011, #20. Texas, OU, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma St, Texas Tech, and aTm had higher.

    In 2010, they had no one in the top 40 in Texas. Teams that did have players in the top 40: Texas, Baylor, aTm, Oregon, OU, Alabama, Oklahoma St, BYU, Arkansas, WVU, LSU, Stanford, and Texas Tech.

  • This is also TCUs first season in a BCS conference. Just look at the kids from Texas over the past few years who had TCU in their top 3-5. Guys like Johnathan Gray, Malcolm and Malcom Brown, Trey Williams, Reggie Wilson, Thomas Johnson, etc. etc. All high profile guys from the state who were considering TCU. I'm not saying all these kids are going to start lining up to play at TCU, but they'll start to land one or two of these types of kids a year, especially if they have success in the Big 12.
