Gary Patterson's theory on why the SEC wins MNCs

BetterOff is the most clueless poster on this forum. It's not close .

I don't see eye to eye with him on a lot of things, but I don't see where he said anything to outrageous on this thread.

When you take risks and hire a coach with previous incidents at his previous school, you run that risk. Results are what matters still.

The point that was made is that the SEC is a tougher conference than the PAC12. Not sure anyone from a B1G school is in position to say it isn't with your recent history.

Done arguing with a brick wall though.

I don't think that Webberlang was saying that the SEC isn't the best conference in college football but I could be wrong. I just think that he's trying to say that the past couple of years it has been a lot more top heavy than people want to make it out to be. I disagree with him somewhat but it's not as deep as it's been in past years with the SEC East being down the past two seasons or so. I think it's about to start evening out somewhat. I see UF, AU, UGA, USCe all stepping up and Mizzou and A&M make it that much better.

So you would argue with who has been the top conference in football?

If so, I think you would be the clueless one. Just saying.

Thanks for your opinion. Glad to know I get to you.

If you went to my original post of what I wrote I said the SEC was the top conf not due to a different type of player but due to the relentless recruiting and top coaches not only as head coaches but the staff as a whole. You(or someone else) said USCw should make it to the National title game because they didn't have to play 9 tough sec games...and I was saying the SEC is made up of alot of mediocre teams and listed those teams which the Bama fan seemed to agree with my point. Then you questioned UGAs mediocrity which I stated their weak OOC losses the past couple yrs which would definitely point out mediocrity. If a team from anywhere else than a sec team lost to the same teams you would more than likely you would say they were terrible. UGA hasn't proved anything to anyone nationally that they are above mediocrity and should be mentioned with the Bamas,LSU,and USC teams. I am not trying to flame but UGA is a middle of the road team.

I agree. I just didn't see how UGA losing to UCF in 2010 had anything to do with last year and pointed out that the teams that beat them averaged 12 wins. He said USCe was mediocre and they happened to finish #9 with all their QB issues and losing one of the top 2 or 3 backs in the nation, they had to be a solid team.

That was my point. It did start off someone saying USCw had an easy schedule.

Understood, but the point I will make, and that I think Better off was trying to make, is that the SEC's "middle of the road" teams, are still better than most other conferences middle of the road teams. Nobody here would be shocked if UGA came out like gangbusters and went to the BCS NC. Yet just about everyone here would signcurse their pants if Arizona did it.

I agree that the SEC has been more top heavy and 2 years ago UGA wasn't good, but last year, they were a solid team. My previous post gets into USCe a little bit.

What I point to with the SEC is Florida dropped off and Tennessee has been horrible, but Arkansas being a different program has made up a little bit.

Maybe with UGAs lucky sched draw they have a shot until they get to the SEC champ game and thats still just speculation. They might be worse than they were last yr (again, just speculation).....until I see it happen I will continue to think they are mediocre...just as I have thought the past couple of yrs.

Those are opinions....if asked you a question without you knowing the team and said this team lost to a 5-7 Colorado team, lost to a UCF team and didn't score a td...got beat by Boise in their own backyard and lost to Michigan State also in their neck of the woods I would think you would lean to them being mediocre. I live in GA and every UGA fan I talk to doesn't think UGA is that good....and that's my 2 cents.

-I think Boise was a good team last yr. but every SEC fan Ive talked to the majority of them thinks Boise is garbage(maybe to just flame on the Boise fans.idk.)

I think Boise is a pretty damn good program right now. What pisses SEC fans off, and it's not only us, is that they schedule one tough OOC game a year and then skate through the rest of their weak ass schedule and complain that they aren't in the BCS National Title Game. You have to play more than one decent program a year to make it to that game IMHO. They play 3 OOC games a year and they need to fill them all with big boys or shut the fvck up.

It will be interesting to see what Florida does in the coming yrs...They are loaded with talent but will have some more growing pains with a new o coordinator coming in with a new system...Muschamp has proven he can recruit but I still need to be sold on him being a head coach...Zooker was kind of the same way....

I don't think Boise is garbage. I wish they had to prove it more than once a year. I think they would be a consistant 9 win team in a BCS conference and then have a chance to become even better with a better platform.

Two years ago UGA was bad and had a lot of internal issues I agree. Don't think Boise, Mich St, LSU, or USCe (all top 10 teams) are anywhere near UCF or Colorado type loses.

I hear you with having to live with a bunch of UGA fans. It would make anyone feel the way you do about them.

No I agree...it's hard to put a solid label on them till they go through what any major conf has to go through week in and week out....Utah was a pretty good example of transition into a major conf.

Honestly, every UGA fan Ive talked to is pretty humble...now I haven't gone to any of their games and don't see to many of them frequently but that would probably change quick if they started winning big.

I think Muschamp will be fine. If he don't pan out though, Charlie Strong will leave Louisville in a heart beat and then the SEC will get interesting.

They need prototypical skill players and a QB bad.

Not trying to bash tOSU, but Urban left them in a giant hole in regards to those positions. Too many 180lb RBs and receivers.

The defense lost their physicalness as well.

If UF gets an offense then the rest of the SEC better watch out. Bama and LSU won't be scared of them but they could be on our level REAL quick. The Weis situation didn't work out obviously and I never thought that it would. He was way to headstrong to be a college OC.

Brantley didn't pan out and that was the major downfall for them...I could only imagine what Cam would've done at UF had he not been kicked out. The one thing I think happened at UF was that every kid that came their thought they were going to automatically win because they were at UF and they became complacent.

Brantley had a raw deal. They tried to run the Tebow spread with him as his first year as a starter and that was just stupid. I put that completely on Urban for not adjusting to the type of qb he had. Charlie Weis and Muschamp didn't see eye to eye on things and it was a completely different type of offense than the spread he was running the year before along with the rest of his teammates. I put that on Charlie Weis for trying to run a typical SEC type offense with players that were fast but tiny. We will see if the new OC actually creates an offense that will utilize the type of players he has around him. It will take probably a year to adjust and whatnot but I still think they will be a lot more dangerous than last year due to how much better their defense will be.
