I would expect that right around 6 or 7 the majority of people in the southeast will have a revolt of some kind. That is un-payable(If that is even a word) for most people.

  • What will happen is what always happens. Gas sales have already declined and the price has started dropping at least in California. The price will slowly drop back below $4 but above the $3.75 it was when this started.

We will all say "whoopee" and go back to driving like always. Then in a year it will all happen again. It's like an annual corporate bonus for the oils companies.

  • I hate to get political, but certain wars have been responsible for many of the jumps in the price of a barrel of oil.

That will happen, but it seems like every year they bump it up just a little bit higher, and so far it is working great for them. There is gonna be a point where the difference between wages and rising gas prices is too great and it will all implode on our heads.

You can't hold the gas pedal down on a car and expect it to run forever-My semi redneck analogy lol

Indeed some have, but recent bumps as rolltiderol said above come from nothing but pure greed. To my knowledge anyways

  • Something needs to change these prices are absolutely ridiculous. What sucks is we have shown we will pay 3.75-4 dollars so they will keep pushing it up until something happens.

I just don't know of any way to fight these prices other than not buying gas and that's just not practical for the majority of people.

EXACTLY. They know people will indefinitely continue to pay around the 4 dollar range. I think eventually their greed will overcome them and they'll keep pushing up the national average and it will all come crashing down along with our economy. Which really wouldn't be that bad. I would trade 10 years of extreme hardtimes if i knew that it would have a chance to be better for a little bit on the other side.

Would we ever see a revolt of some kind related to this?

I've mainly stopped driving my personal vehicle. Its a Yukon and gets about 15 mpg. I have a company vehicle which is GREAT and my wife has a Mazda that gets 35 mpg so it doesnt hurt that much.

I get around the same in my Z71. I will be joining the miltary and will choose just to stay on base a lot and not use personal gas guzzlers so that will limit my expenditures for oil.

Not at all. I hate trees. Do the math.

($7/gal - $3.50/gal) x 20k miles per year / 25 mpg = $2,800 extra per year extra to laugh at all of you whine. I think I can handle that. I spend much more on things far less entertaining.

I'd have no problem riding a bike places, but I see people ride bikes on a daily basis and I'm just waiting for a driver to run them over.

I ride my bike everyday unless it is absolutely pouring rain. Between gym/work/school I ride anywhere from 10-50 miles per day. I work in a corporate setting where I have to wear slacks and a tie, my co-workers get kick out of seeing me walk into my office everyday in spandex. Since the first of the year I've spent a total of about $40 on gas and made about $400 in paid mileage from work.

I started doing it not necessarily because of rising gas prices, but just to see if I could do it. The logistics of carrying everything in a single backpack and having to change multiple times has been a challenge, but it has been easier overall than I thought.

That is exactly what the big oil companies don't want us to realize. We can save major gas if we just get up and do something like you did. +1
