  • What do u guys expect from Florida this year?? Gator fans how are your QBs progressing?? ,Briskett or Driskell who is leading the QB battle and who do you expect to win tha battle?? God your QBs were turrible last year. Nasty Defense though. 8-4 type of year? Can yo beat FSU??

  • This is just going to be a huge Nole thread about "the gators suck" "we are going to beat them this year by 100." Gators will have another season of getting things into place for the following years. Breaking in a whole new offense (again) with new OC and OL coach. I think 9 wins would be the most in the regular season, could finish 8-4 regular season with a win in the bowl game to get to 9 wins and I would be happy. I think Brissett is going to win the QB battle, but I personally like Driskel better because I think he could add a different dimension to the offense with his ability to run. The defense is stacked and is going to keep the offense in game, if they can get some more turnovers they can maybe win some more games. And obviously UF can beat FSU, it's FSU.

  • I'm not sold on Muschamp at all for UF.

Their O is not going to be good and the D should be solid.

It will probably be another sub par year by Floridas standards.

And yes, UF can beat FSU bc FSU has an average at best O too but a better D (fwiw I'm betting money on FSU that game)

  • Who is going to be the starting QB at UF? Are they going to use Driskel and Brissett?

I hope it's not, but I think FSU vs UF will be closer than people think.

  • Gators season will be heavily determined by first 2 SEC games. If they win both, their QB situation will be decided and the starter will have the confidence to carry on. Lose one and Muschamp will visit his MD for new blood pressure scrip. Come home from Knoxville 0-2 in league and there will be Ryder-Pies in the driveway.

The good fortune of having Georgia, SC, and LSU at home wont hurt any either.

  • Driskell looked like the future to me. He made some NFL talent look foolish with his moves under pressure.

  • Need both lines of scrimmage to be solid, and most importantly stay healthy.

We've had problems, huge ones, in at least one of these areas (health/solid) of play, the last 3 seasons.

As it stands today, I see the losses against LSU, USCe, FSU, and maybe UT (I think its possible if it gets solidified into that night gm espn spot)

I like what Muschamp is doing, and he is gonna stockpile this team with loads of talent. So even if he does flame out (I think he pulls it all together by midseason) the talent will be on the roster.

Is Driskell a "pro-style" guy, or was he recruited for Meyers spread?

Meyers spread but cares he can do it! If not we got brisset who ever can lead the team the best will start imo. Defence will be sick mark my word

  • I expect 9-10 wins, much improved Offense although it wont be anything special. As we saw in the spring game our new OC Brent Pease has already made his mark, much more movement before the snap to keep the defense guessing, and much more interactive with our QBs "not just yelling all the time like Coach Weis" as Driskel put it.. And I think Driskel will win the QB competition, but I think we could do fine with either one.

Meyer recruited him for the spread, but every recruiting site had him rated as a pro-style QB.

  • Brissett will likely win. He's more accurate, looks more confident, and his numbers have been better...even in the spring game he was well above Driskel.

Wan't Driskel like 10-11 in the spring game?

I think Florida is in for an 8-9 win season, but 9 is being admittedly optimistic. The defense should be very good, and should keep Florida in pretty much every game. If the offense progresses, and I expect it will, Florida should be able to win some of those close games that they lost last year. I expect to see some flashes from the offense, and also probably some maddening performances, most likely against LSU and possibly FSU (two great defenses). I like Muschamp, and I honestly believe that he can win at Florida, and win big.

I do find it strange that fans of other teams are more down on Muschamp, than most Florida fans are. We're not exactly known to be an overly patient fan base, but the majority of the Gators that I know all like Muschamp, or at least think that he can be successful at Florida.

    Great point.

I think the floor would be 7 wins, ceiling is 9. My only concerns on D is depth and will we generate a pass rush. Losing Powell will hurt.

Im more worried about stopping the run.

Thats how you get your pass rush imo. Create 2nd/3rd and longs, and let your guys pin their ears back and go on obvious passing downs.

  • I expect 9-3 regular season, although it could be as good as 10-2 or as bad as 8-4. . I hate to call anything a sure loss, but LSU is still deeper and more stable overall on the roster.

The other two losses come from two of A&M, UGA, USCe, FSU. Think we beat two and lose two.

With 18 starters back, including 21 of 22 on defense, the entire OL, and much better coaching on offense with OL coach Tim Davis and OC Brent Pease, I think every tough game will be close, both wins and losses.

Even with our worst team in 30 years we led UGA from the start of the game, until 8 minutes left in the 4th before losing by 4.

We led USCe in the 4th quarter as well before losing late.

FSU had under 100 yards of total offense, and scored because John Brantley was literally playing for them that night. He threw 3 INTS in the first half. All three TD's by FSU started inside our own 20, or came from a pick six.

AU was a 1 point game in the 4th as well.

Point is, with the youngest team in the nation last year, the worst QB I've ever witnessed at UF, a terrible OC in Weis, a brand new staff, and only 67 players on scholly, we still competed in every game but Bama and LSU.

This years team has a full roster, a ton of experience on defense, better depth and better coaching, plus its the second year of the staff. We'll look a ton better this year heading into what could and should be a top 5 team in 2013.

Main reason I can't get overly excited about competing for more than the east is because our QB will be a first year starter. Both guys looked great in the spring and one of them is going to end up a stud. That said, they'll show flashes of greatness, but also make mistakes in critical moments. The amount of mistakes will determine how good the year will be. The defense is going to be one of the best in the nation. If the offense is average, which I expect, we'll win 9 games. If they end up being better than average, look out. If for some reason they're as bad as last year, we'll only win 7 or 8 games total again, just like the last two years of utter crap.

  • 7 wins would put Muschamp on the hot seat. IMO 8-9 is doable. Don't really see 10 wins unless UF gets every bounce and some other teams lose a player or two. Driskel and Brissett both will see time in each game unless one just shows he's the clear starter. Even if Brissett is named starter you'll get packages for Drisekl like Tebow in '06. Getting Ease back early and moving him outside on passing downs will be key bc w/o him and McCray we don't have any pass rush. DJF and Bullard could help but relying on Fr in the SEC isn't a good idea.
A&M and UT are the big games early.

  • Unlike a lot of FSU fans, I think Florida should still have a 9 or 10 win season if the chips fall their way on offense. I think they lose to LSU and FSU for sure (/homerism) and has a shot to win the East IF they can get their offense going, but could lose to one/both of UGA or USCe. Their defense will be stout, but again, the offense is the question mark (QB, WRs?).

I think the game in Doak will be a good one. Really looking forward to it.

    EnterTheOcho

  • I think UF will improve but the loss of Powell paired with trips to College Station and Knoxville early on will be tough. You're talking about 2 of the 5-7 most hostile environments in CFB when they're jazzed up and they most certainly will be.

UF's lack of offensive playmakers cost them one of those two games. Beyond that will depend on how developed the QB and WR relationship has been.

Only nole I will upvote. I agree with you whole heartedly.

Whe you say chips fall our way, we had lots of chips fall against us... Mainly against AU when they ran into Rainey on a punt return a d the refs said no interference. BS at its finest!
