Gators, Dawgs going tit for tat

Georgia and Florida appear to be exchanging rivalry blows on the recruiting trail after this past weekend.

  • At this pace, I'm gonna have to rewrite the story multiple times to keep pace myself ...

    Paul Strelow

  • I know about the Dawgs trying to bring around 30(as you said 33) commitments in but how many are the Gators able to or trying to bring in?

  • Florida will probably be around 24-26.

I'd like to know the answer to that as well.

  • We can back count 8 due to last year's numbers with EEs for '13 (I think all but 2 of our current commits are planning to EE, FWIW).

Pretty sure you can't count back that much either way in the SEC anymore.

Thought you could only count back 5 max.

I believe the understanding is you can back count as many as you want as long as A) you don't exceed the max # of signees in any given class B) you don't exceed 85. I do think this point might be mute though. As much as I would love 8 EE's, that's very rare and a lot of work. I think a max realistic # for us is 6.

There's some wording that allows some type of a loophole with the back counting stuff. There's a couple of dates that make it possible. That number does still seem high unless they backcounted a few of their class last year.

    And Saint Richt against oversigning.

"I think that's an awful thing to do," Richt said. "It's nothing that we have ever done since we've been at Georgia."

if UF could take 30 it wouldn't be fair what this class would look like. Uga taking kids that didn't get and wanted UF offers.

    Damn you , Urbs.

  • Eh Atl, if UF could sign thirty it would still be "fair".

Georgia will get even more momentum when the season starts. UGA has a truly elite squad this year. ?s like everyone has but they have as many !s as any team in America.

If you cant take 30 whose fault is it? That means youre full. How can you be mad because UGA has 30 schollys to give out?Its not like UGA is going to end up with more players than UF. At the end of the day everyone has 85 or less

yeah on the same token, we signed 19 last year. so while we might get 25+ this season, i don't like getting 19 in any year.

  • I usually don't reply to the idiots that post on this board but I'll give it a try this time. There is a difference in over signing and signing a class bigger than 25. Over signing is the act if signing more players than you have scholarships for and in turn having I remove someone from the team ( Spurrier did this just last year) or having to Greyshirt someone (Saban tried to do this last year) or just pulling a scholarship from a kid (that worked out well for u LSU boys this year didn't it). We signed a short class last year and we now have the option of bringing in more than the standard 25. If you guys weren't so concerned about Richt's good Christian standards you might have a better grasp of the actual rules that relate to college football. And who knows you might even have realized that you couldn't have all those kids staying at the Whitney hotel. I believe if I were in ur shoes I would get my house in order before I started worrying about someone else's. Anyway my two cents now I'll I back to my board where there are a few less idiots.

    blitzdawg

  • if a team signs 30 kids compared to someone signing 24 you'll have more points bc of bodies ...you could quailty points but it would be hard from them to win the MRNC because of numbers unless they get 5+ 5* like USC did a few years back.

Signing 30 kids is oversigning. Richt thinks it's a terrible thing to do, thus UGA fans cry about other schools doing it in the name of Richt.

But now that he's going to do it, it's justified and as your fellow fan noted above, we're the idiots for noticing it.

You clearly don't understand what over-signing is. It's all good though.
