Georgia Tech and the B1G next?

  • Maryland people saying that Georgia Tech could be next to be targeted by the B1G.

If true Delany is moving towards the Super Conference and they are trying to put the B1G network in the NE and South.

With the rumors of Fox who is part owner of the B1G network on the verge of purchasing YES network in the NY they are going to require house holds in the NE to have it. They don't care if people are going to watch it they get paid a boat load of cash just bely households having it on their package.

  • Awww it's so thoughtful to add teams that Michigan and Nebraska can beat up on.

  • Perhaps they want to add enough teams so they can just literally call it the BIG conference.

  • I think this is Delany's way of being able to rename the divisions and save face.

Isn't Ga Tech the team that graduates like 20% of their players?

I'd much rather stay put than add teams for the sake of adding them. None of the three teams mentioned bring anything I'd consider marquee to the table.

Seems like a drastic measure to save face. He could just simply rename the divisions like an adult.

  • Maybe Delaney is adding these acc teams to squeeze ND into joining the B1G

I think that is the ultimate play. If they take Maryland and Tech and then FSU jumps ship ND has another decision to make.

  • Only thing that's gonna happen from this is ND and FSU join the Big 12. Or Clemson and FSU and then Notre Dame just agrees to be a half member of ACC and Big 12 lol

That would be really smart. If they could get Syracuse,Rutgers,Maryland and Georgia Tech, that would be pretty dang good move for Delaney. NY,DC,Atlanta plus NE,East Coast and SE regions. You mix good basketball with mediocre football though.

  • Rutgers is apparently set to announce to the B1G tomorrow. If true GT would have to find another dancing partner and the B1G would go to sixteen. I would imagine that does not happen just yet unless the their is no hope for ND.

  • 13. Maryland
    14. Rutgers
    15. Syracuse
    16. UVA (after SEC poaches VT and NCST)

They already have DC market with Maryland though? shrug

Maryland can be a beast in football. The DMV is exploding with talent after some serious infrastructure changes about 6-8 years ago. Friedgen had them in the top 10 and they can return there for sure.

ND to the B10 is not happening. That ship has sunk.

UVA brings the State of Virginia into the BTN footprint, which is contiguous to the State of Maryland and nearly contiguous to the States of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and New Jersey. That will help BTN get onto basic cable in all those states. If UGA were on the table, the B10 might be willing to stretch itself all the way down to the State of Georgia ... but GT is not UGA. It's unclear even whether GT would be enough to get BTN onto basic cable in its own state. Also, UVA is a better fit culturally and is a slightly better regional/national brand in basketball, lax and most other non-football sports. Bottom line: the B10 will never be able to get much traction in the SE, which is controlled by the SEC and to a lesser extent the southern ACC schools. So the B10 has decided to dominate the NE by grabbing the best schools in that region from the BE and the ACC. UVA fits into that strategy much better than GT.

    15. Georgia Tech

They don't fit the B10 academically, culturally or geographically. This is not just a football decision. TBH I cannot see FSU wanting to join the B10 either. Their first choice is likely the SEC and their second choice is likely the B12. They fit much better in one of those conferences.

Maybe. Either way, it's not the B10.
