  • Seems like he will be a situational pass rusher this year but he is learning to play DE now because he is about 270 lbs now. I think he will be ready to replace the current starters when his time comes. Also he is a great kid which Mark Richt could use a lot more of.

  • Yes indeed. He has gained over 30 lbs since arriving at UGA and Grantham think its best that he learn to play DE for now but he also likes to cross train his players so that could be it too. How is Tuitt coming along for you guys? I'm hoping he turns into a fierce pass rusher.

  • Oops just realized you were asking about Jay Rome. He actually took a redshirt and played sparingly on the basketball team this year. From reports he was outstanding in spring scrimmages and will be rotating as the first string TE with Arthur Lynch.

    Tuitt is overshadowed by Lynch, but IMO he's just as good if not better since he plays the pass/run equally good. Kid played DE/DT a lot last year had he not had mono late in the year he'd be much more hyped. Also didn't travel for Purdue game because he skipped a class. SO Lynch, RSSO Nix, and SO Tuitt should be one of the better DL's in the country. FR Sheldon Day looks to be a major contibutor as well. They'll need to dominate with our lack of experience at the CB position.

    Will probably happen to Nkemdiche too if he goes to a 3-4 school.

    I would hate to be a "gap holder" that goes #3 overall in the draft.

    That would be horrible.

    He will be a DE. Either way there are 2 different techniques that a DE plays in a 3-4 anyways.

  • DE all the way. He is a better fit there. Playing in space was never his strength, plus we have a number of guys we like better at OLB. That's not a knock on Ray, just an indication of what we have at OLB and how much better we like Ray with his hand in the dirt. Sterling Bailey (same class) has a similar build but he's a OLB all the way. Just trying to put guys in position to make plays.

    Demarcus Ware is the size of and plays like more of a speed rusher. Ray Drew's already bigger than him. Y'all going to shrink him down over the next couple years?

    There's nothing wrong with being a 3-4 DE, but OLBs and NTs are who get the money and glory in that scheme at the next level. He's not going to be OLB in the long run even if y'all say so.

    Hope I'm wrong and he's getting double digit sacks as he's a great kid, just don't see it happening.

    P.S. Connor Barwin probably would've been a better example, he plays DE in a 3-4 and gets to pass rush.

    It sounds like you should be having this conversation with Todd Grantham (who converted Ware from DE to OLB) and not me... shrug

    He seems to believe he is doing that with Drew, but maybe your on to something.
