Nobody wants to be poor, and most people would be willing to work to be wealthy. The problem is a ton of people are willing to sit on their ass to remain a similar flavor of poor. I've heard of more than one instance of someone refusing to take a job because they didn't see the little extra money being worth dropping unemployment. I actually tried to hire one person, and I saw his point of view. He was a $12/hour kind of guy. The difference in his potential paycheck and his unemployment wasn't enough to get him out of bed in the morning.
However, this isn't the issue we're really dealing with here. Our problems are significantly deeper than welfare. There is no end in sight for spending. They're going to raise taxes on most anyone that makes a good living, but it wont be nearly enough to cover the spending.

Honestly, when I see poor people with iPhones, I begin to lose faith in this country.
If you're poor, you don't need a damn smart phone. I'm sick of seeing people using food stamps and talking or texting on a damn iPhone.
Get a damn go phone if you're poor. The priorities of people on welfare in the south are backwards. Seeing nice vehicles in section 8 housing is pathetic. Your vehicle should not cost 50% of your property value, much less surpass it.

I was waiting for someone to post this, always a great laugh.
I've yet to see a single "poor" person that has a iPhone and has food assistance or have A super nice car. And I know a lot of people that are on it and I used to work as cashier at a grocery store. It's just a load of crap.

Even if he did have an iPhone, he would have no way to pay for the bills on it.
People on welfare don't make that much money off of it, and certainly not enough to pay for the data plans required for an iPhone. The only way you will see a person on welfare or assistance of any kind with an iPhone is if that person is doing a lot of shady business on the side and are scumbags anyways.

It's because they've become almost indistinguishable. So many people are poor nowadays just because they know the government will support them. There is no initiative to change. It's hard to tell the difference between people who are just struggling and those who are content with collecting their government check each month.

get's it. lazy ass democrats better not get too greedy or their won't be anything left for them to suck dry. as football fans we sure as hell would not want our coaches, players or athletic programs run with a socialist ideology...why? because it eliminates drive and excellence...hell even a moderate will tell you that.

No it doesn't.
Look at many countries across the world who have much more social assistance and are in much better financial situations than the US are in currently.
Republicans just make up these bullshit myths that are so far from reality. There are many case studies that you can look at that directly contradicts what you are saying right now.

Also let me clarify, I'm not advocating for the US to become a more socialist country. Their politics have gotten them to the top so they obviously know what they are doing; but to assert that some forms of social assistance creates a lower, lazy class of people is just 100% false.
I live in a country you guys probably consider socialist, and no one sits at some shitty home, happy to sit on the couch, and collect welfare cheques. It's not enough money to have a legit life, and no one wants to be poor. There are obviously some crazies who probably do just collect welfare and do nothing; but the vast majority are fighting tooth and nail to make something of themselves.
