I believe we've had this argument 10 million times and it always turns out the same... Atheist are douche bags. They just want attention.

And I'm the one making this thread a religious pissing match? At no point during my post did I attack God and here you are making generalIzed judgements for an entire group of people that you are far from qualified to make. It's cool though, you can go back to playing victim.

The seatbelt believer expressed his opinion respectfuy.

And he has been called a douche and been verbally abused.

It's blatantly clear who is in the wrong here.

Again, if the seatbelt guy just doesn't interject his opinion and moves on to the next thread, then we aren't even discussing this issue.

    Let's try a different angle:
If you are talking to someone about how to discipline your child and a third person just walks over to your conversation and interjects an opinion that is completely contradictory to your opinion, you would--most likely--call that person a douche. It's a pretty natural thing. So, are you wrong or is the person who interjected his opinion in another person's conversation wrong?

If you are posting on a public message board, then it's no longer private. How about this, if you post a thread on disciplining your child and someone offers a point of view contrary to the one you hold, does that make them a douche or does that make you a douche for getting offended by something said on a public message board?

OP, glad your sister is ok. Whether it was God or the seatbelt we're all thankful she's ok

    You're entitled to your opinion.

I see a slew of people attributing it to god and no one attacking them for it.

I see one person attribute it to seatbelts and safety measures in cars and a whole group of people verbally abusing him.

To me, it seems like a bunch of religious bullies putting a guy down. That's my opinion.

It's a two-way street, pro-God posters get attacked on this site with regularity. Its a message board, gonna happen, it has no effect on my faith or world-view . I just think its funny that you will rant at and attack posters on our team site then get offended here. Priorities I guess.

Just our of curiosity, does that mean it's uncourtious for people to mention God in any thread not specifically about God?

Just trying to understand the rules here.

If you would step away from your agenda, you would note that my response was specific to the OP and the reason he started this thread...you had a clear opportunity to not post on this thread that was titled "God". The fact you did, denotes an agenda.

If anyone on this forum mentions the tree gods or the coconut spirits for example, why not respond only to topic without judging someones beliefs?

I can guarantee, I will not read or post on a thread that is titled "Atheist". Now, I would also side with you if some wacko Christian felt compelled to drag down your thread like you and others just did here.

If you don't get that...well, you'll never get it.

The point of the OP was that he was grateful that his sister was unscathed in an awful accident rather than dead. Whether someone disagrees on WHY is really irrelevant. There are no rules. The extra opinion wasn't needed & really doesn't serve a purpose ITT.

This is an open forum. How many times have you gone in an FSU thread and disagreed?

If the OP didn't want discussion shouldn't he be on a Christian board or a God board or something?

I agree with you're overall view, I disagree with who drug the thread down and where the blame lies.

You expect people go pass over the thread, but why does that same logic not apply to people not responding to his post? Others could have ignored his post just like you expected him to ignore this thread, no?

BUT, his post was respectful and didn't degrade anyone. Maybe some took offense to it but clearly that was not his intent.

The same cannot be said for those who responded to his post.

Look, I'm not singling you out, and I would fight for your right to speak your mind and follow your beliefs..but this is where it crosses the line...the OP, his family and specifically his sister, escaped a potential horrific tragedy, and he felt enough relief, and thankfulness to share it here with others. Why not celebrate with him, in the manner he saw fit, and save the agendas for another day, or situation?

That is where good manners come in...know when to fight your fights, and when to just let have someone his moment of thankfulness, in the manner he choses.

I had no intention of turning this into a pissing match between atheists, or agnostics in my case, and Christians. I stated very clearly that I'm glad the OP's sister is doing well. It's not every day you can have such a terrible wreck and live to tell about it. I am simply pointing out that this may not be the "Godly miracle" that it's being made out to be. If you want to believe so, then that's fine. I just have a hard time believing that God would intervene with an automobile accident, but not intervene with children diagnosed with leukemia. To me, it seems more like the seatbelt did it's job.

The point is that the OP made his post as a heartfelt reaction in a very emotional moment for him. It wasn't your place to express a contradictory opinion at that moment. If I say, "My baby-boy was born healthy at 8 am his morning...thank God!" it would be incredibly inappropriate for you to reply with, "I'm happy for you, but shouldn't you give credit to the doctor instead?"

If you want to discuss seatbelts and God then start another thread a few days after the OP has had a chance to digest a very scary situation for him and his family.

Just gonna let y'all know that God is amazing. My sister flipped her car twice down a bank tonight, totaled her car and her airbags did not come out. She walked away with a little scratch on her chest. The man up stairs was watching over her tonight and I'm thankful.

God is good, and I'm happy for you and your family. Thanks for your post.

  • Man thats crazy! God was looking out for her big time. I'd also look into why the air bag's didnt go off. Only because garage's & mechanic's steal them. My old man was in an accident a couple year's back & his did not deploy either. The cops found out that his mechanic was apart of a theft ring stealing & hawking air bag's & apparently they sell for big buck's on the black market. My dad is still in a lawsuit with said garage that is still in litigation.

Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when man cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in Heaven is great, for so they persecuted the prophets before you.
