Godfather 2 help.....

  • when Fredo is hosting those guys and Michael joins them and Fredo is talking too much and Michael looks around realizing he's done something against the family....what was it that Fredo said?

    fsufsu

  • Meaning the party in Cuba? I can't remember his name but the associate of Roth, Johnny O-something, and Fredo said they had never met. Then later when the entertainment came out Fredo said that Roth would never come to a place like that but that Johnny O showed him around and told him about it. Michael realized then that Fredo had lied.

The scene at the New Year's party when Michael tells Fredo he knows it was him that betrayed the family, simply put, is acting at its absolute finest. It gives me chills every time.

Just finished the movie on amc for the 100th time. It's the greatest of all time.

Never been another movie remotely on its level.

  • The only question I have ever had about Part II is re: Frank Pentangeli's brother. Is the brother being shown by the Corleones as a threat to Pentangeli (as in, we'll kill him if you testify), or is the brother there showing his disapproval of Pentangeli breaking the Mafia code (if he goes through with the testimony)?

I took it as both.. Disappointment from a brother is a strong motivator.

The poignant moment is when they are frisking Michael and his brother coming in the court room. The two brothers make eye contact and his bro's shock that he'd testify was all it took.

Personally, I thought it was more of the latter. I'm unsure if they ever would have killed his brother, but that look in his brother's eyes when Frank and his brother make eye contact is very telling. Frank then realizes he cannot break the mafia code.

  • I think you guys are right.

I felt bad for Frank because he was tricked into thinking Michael tried to have him killed, which resulted in him agreeing to testify ... and eventually into him killing himself to try and make up for it.

  • IMO Part II was better than the first.

I thought the way it ended with Michael sitting alone in the cold, reminiscing about who he once was and thinking about who he had become, was superb.

  • I'll give the slight edge to Part 1. Not a slight on Part 2, but everything about the first is just pure gold.

It is superb. But just second best to me. I thought Part I's ending, with Michael lying to his wife and then her looking on from outside his office (from the outside in) as he was officially Don'd up was equally superb. Then to cap that off with the door shutting, again with her on the outside of it ... movie perfection right there. And the fade out as the door closes with the music kicking in? Movie boner.

Part II's is real close, though. The flashback scene was perfect. Every detail -- including the small ones, like the kids saying "Daddy's fighting again" when Sonny is pissed with Michael for joining the military.

Seriously, two of the best movies of all time. Don't watch them if you don't have three hours to devote to really get into the movie. Honestly, you won't get into it if you've just got it on in the background of something else. Sit down with a beer or three and enjoy.

Seriously ? I thought Scarface, Casino & Goodfellas were all kind of meh.

They were good not as great as people made them out to be.. JMO

Scarface is one of the most over rated movies ever. It was 80's cheesy good before everyone proclaimed it the best (in a serious tone) around the time of MTV Cribs.

I don't know what your problem is with Casino and Goodfellas though. Maybe expectations too highshrug

But The God Father's are more sweeping epics and at the core "Family Dramas". If you go in expecting shoot em up crime action flicks then you will be let down. The only people I know that didn't like them after watching said they were slow and boring, but they like Michael Bay movies alot.

The first 20 minutes of Goodfellas are amazing, the next hour is all right, and the rest is highly questionable imho. Casino is meh...entirely too long. Scarface is slightly overrated, but still great to watch every once in awhile.

As for The Godfather Part I & II...they're absolute masterpieces. Between the two & Apocalypse Now, Coppola made three of the greatest films ever all in a row.
