Report: Chip Kelly to meet with Cleveland Browns on Friday

A report is out saying Oregon head coach Chip Kelly will meet with the Cleveland Browns to interview for the open head coaching job.

  • He tries to implement that cookie cutter bullshit, he will fail miserably in the NFL. If he adjusts to the NFL style of play, he could do OK. Browns are idiots. They needed a proven coach, but they got another unknown.

I think he is just using the browns to get a better deal with the eagles.

Either way, his offense that he runs at Oregon will not work in the NFL. Browns, Eagles, it doesn't matter. I think he is a good coach, but I hope he knows that he will have to change his philosophy in the pros.

I don't know but the NFL is moving to a faster and faster type O. Chip has done great things with so so type players and you give him pros I see him doing great things a few years in.

Shouldn't Mountaineer fans worry about their own "system"? Does WVU even have a defensive scheme?

Have you noticed what Shanahan has done with the Skins? I have a feeling Chip will do alright in the NFL. The rules that hinder the defense, and the fact that the up-tempo pace will tire the opposing team is the makings of success.

Edit: Also, look at the Seahawks! They have decent talent, not out ofthis world talent, and they are doing damage. Carroll hates defending the spread zone-read offense in college, but is now running the exact thing he hated.

Change is coming to the NFL. Transformations happen throughout the sports history - West coast offense? Today's is the spread zone-read.

Brandon Weeden trying to run Chip Kelly's offense should be about as successful as Craig James' Senate run.

What does being a WVU fan have to do with college coaches systems in the NFL?

    I'm not seeing the connection.

His offense will work in te NFL. Shanahan and Carroll are both using concepts of the spread zone-read. Also, Bilichek learned from Chip over the summer and has implemented concepts into his offense.

Give Chip his athletes and he'll get it done. Have you ever noticed how much he runs with the qb? Very little compared to other teams who use the spread - ala Braxton Miller. Chip has more concern with an athletic, efficient o-line and skills players to execute their blocks and responsibilities.

Who is this directed at? I find it ironic that you, an Ohio State fan, miss out on the MNC game this year because of sanctions.

    Pot meet kettle.

Oh, and I'm a USC fan, so Kiffin is the worst sanction there is.

Disagree. His current scheme will not work in the NFL. Also worth mentioning that Mariotta is the Ducks 2nd leading rusher in yds and attempts this season. That is the huge reason why Chip's offense was so successful this season. When the defense doesn't need to account for the QB, it's alot easier to defend his offense. Chip will not be able to run the ball 53 times per game (like he does at Oregon) and expect to win very many games.

  • You can actually sub defenders between plays in the NFL.. Unlike College.. So he won't have the advantage of playing fast and not letting the D sub players

  • I personally think that Chip Kelly is a good enough coach and offensive mind to adapt to the NFL game. Great coaches in the NFL wouldn't be asking for his advice if he wasn't an offensive genius. To be labeled a genius, I believe that it entails that you can adapt to any situation whether it be the level or designing a system that takes advantage of the players on your team.

After meeting with Chip during the offseason, Belichek ended up breaking the record for how man plays they ran, apparently Chip knew something in Bill's eyes. Kelly will definitely adapt his scheme in the NFL, don't forget that when he was the OC in NH he ran a pass based spread attack. He will definitely adapt his scheme to his teams strengths as well as their opponent's.

    Agree.

The NFL wants the guy because of his football brain and his ability to manage and lead. Wherever he goes the dude aint gonna install an Oregon style zone read. He'll adapt.

I think he would be better suited for Philly, especially with their speed at QB (Vick) and WRs.

Darron Thomas didn't/couldn't run for dick and they made the MNCG and won a Rose with him. But yes, the Ducks are way more potent with a QB that can move.

I would agree if Vick could stay healthy and they could afford him next year but Vick is gone and Foles won't do anything for Chip. I could still see Philly being the place, but they will end up drafting Boyd - a guy Chip recruited - or Geno IMO.
