You all must be 20 years old or less. Outkast, which I enjoy, are not even in the discussion.

Slick Rick and Doug E Fresh?

I know Rosa Parks, and they are good, but the best of all time?

Then a 25 yr old was 5. Say the best of "X" person's lifetime, fine, but not the best ever.

    Yes, get off my lawn!

They are real good, but not all-time great IMHO.

  • Different generations are going to like different groups. Different regions as in the north, south and so on will like different groups. I like UGK because I'm a big fan of Pimp C but 8ball & MJG are hands down the best in the south. They didn't get the mainstream love like Outkast but neither did UGK not until late.

The only 3 groups that will be on any "all time" list are:

    Public Enemy

    NWA

    Tribe

Other than that its gonna be different between generation gaps.

i think that they were talking duos, but if we are talking groups I am down with your 3. I could really only add Run DMC because they laid it down for these 3 to follow.

    My man! cool

  • we should just make this the official rap music thread where we can share new music and discuss all time lists. We didn't really have much interest in rap before, but seems like we have a lot of people interested and that know their stuff now.

  • I'm down with that, but I do not like much of today's rap, so from my angle it would be mostly old school.

A lot of (more like all) the stuff they play on the radio today is all garbage. They are good new rappers out right now doing their thing. J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Big Krit, Jay Electronica being a few.

To me, it all depends on the mood I'm in. Sometimes, I don't wanna hear nothing but some old school. And even then, I gotta choose what kinda old school I'm in the mood for. Anywhere from Big Daddy Kane to the Digital Underground, from Heavy D to LL, Big & Pac. I am younger (25) and while I'm familiar with Run DMC, idk too many of the first wave of hip hop music, ie- Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash.

Other times, I just wanna hear some straight street sh*t so I'll play Waka, or Jeezy, or Boosie. Hell, I even love country music and am a big fan of Aldean, Strait & Shelton. It's just how I was raised and where I'm from (the south). The north is where it all started but sometimes, I can't connect with their music. Yeah, you got Big L, Jay, Nas, Big, Kiss, etc, etc who anybody & everybody can feel. But then, y'all got cats y'all love like Poose, Juelz, Budden & his group, and I be like "y'all actually like this type of music?" I'm sure NY dudes feel the same about what southern artists be throwing out.

Back to the topic, while I respect everyone's opinion, my top 3 are Kast, UGK & Ball/MJG.

I'm with you on not really being able to connect with a lot of the music from rappers up north. I like this new kid though ASAP Rocky. A lot of the music he makes has a southern feel to it but he's from Harlem. Listening to his music you can tell that Texas rappers along with that chopped and screwed era inspired him to make the kind of music he does.

Right now I listen to Wiz, Curren$y, Hussle, and ASAP. They have a different style that's refreshing to your ears but I still listen to the street as well. I have always been very diverse when it comes to music. No matter the time or era it came out, good music is good music
