Gruden turns down Arkansas. Tennessee looms...

Why are you calling me names?

I was wondering the same thing. You didn't even say anything definitively, just said you heard they were broke.

Nova made him mad again? shrug

  • Gruden's just waiting to see what Chip Kelly does. If CK goes to the NFL, Gruden's all Oregon. Lol. Seriously though, I could see him looking at Oregon if CK does decide to leave which he is, but nobody knows when. I could also see Gruden going to USC if LK gets the boot which he will sometime soon.

If Tennessee lands Gruden, good for them. Can't see anyway that he is not a homerun hire. Kids would love to play for Chucky, and obviously he can coach some football.

That being said. I believe he will go to Tennessee like he was going to ND, Michigan, tOSU, UCLA, and every other job opening the last 5 years.

    I say bullshit.

  • I just don't see Gruden coaching in college. He's got a sweet, stress-free gig with ESPN that pays him (what I heard, could be wrong) $6.3 million a year and he could get an NFL HC job whenever he damn well pleases. While coaching in the NFL is stressful, coaching in college is a different beast.

I could be wrong though. Auburn won't get him, but I'd sure love to have him. Hell of a coach.

  • He grew up in & around South Bend. His dad was a long time assistant at ND. Gruden actually said that the ND fight song was playing in his head when he lost his virginity. True story look it up.

  • What is so great about Gruden he won with Dungy's players then his teams slowly got worse and worse...I just dunno the fascination with Chucky

You're dumb as sheet rock. They had 1.8 mill sitting around and the university just said they dont have to hit them up with 6 mil for each of the next three years. Most schools who make cash donate to the school, Tennessee had to do so contracturally. Chancellor said that's waived for the next three years to give them 6 mill extra for each of the next three years.

And all that is before the boosters get hot and bothered. Bill Haslam pulls out his roledex, makes 5 calls and the Vols have 5 mill a year easy to give an HC.

Having only 1.8m sitting around equals flat broke in major college athletics. Most well funded departments have upwards of 50m on hand. You might want to get a clue before you call someone "dumb as sheet rock," moron.

I wish I was the equivalent of flat broke in major college athletics. Having only 1.8 million dollars would be rough but I think I could manage.

I've heard Tennessee is broke. Well, not broke but funds are limited and big money boosters are drying up. Gonna have to pay Dooleys buyout plus huge money to a knew coach. Should be interesting.

Their athletic dept ran a $4 mil deficit in their fiscal 2011/12 according to ESPN and one of their biggest boosters can't give money to football anymore since he owns an NFL team.

    Go Vols

  • He wanted to learn the spread and Chip offered him the OC job but he declined. Could he take Oregon;'s HC job and leave the staff in place when Chip goes pro? Helfrich can run the same offense as Gruden learns it and oversees the team?

They can't give money to football. The Texans owner is a SCar alum, he can't either.

  • Grudens name will def be linked to the Eagles job when Reid is fired. He was the OC there before he got the Raiders job. Dunno if it is a real possibility though

Um.... What... lol so I guess Jerry Jones doesn't give money to Arkansas either.... And there is more than one Haslam... His brother is the gov and their dad isn't poor either...

    What's the latest vols?

Gruden, Stoops, Jimbo, Strong, Greg Roman, in that order. $ won't be a detriment to the hire, regardless who it is (for reason OA mentioned). IMO, we miss on the top three and land Strong.

If and when he takes the Tennessee job, the Vols will become the toughest team in the SEC inside two years and Chucky will be in charge of the biggest cfb dynasty ever. Just saying...

At Arkansas we have heard that money won't be a determining factor either, but you know what? It always will be. No matter if a school has 100 million to spend on a coach or 1 million. When you get down to it, there are the factor of is this coach worth it? Will we see a return on this? ect...

I know good and well that Arkansas will not get Gruden, and that while Tennessee has a better shot, that y'all probably won't either. If we get lucky, we will probably end up with Gundy, Patterson, or Franklin. If our luck really goes to shit and we miss on all of them, then we will end up with Strong, or a lower tier coach like that.

Read what you responded to one more time. The Texans owner gives plenty of money to our university.

I admitted that I was wrong and was just guessing. I knew that he had some sort of ties to South Bend. I guess that I wasn't completely wrong going by the Notre Dame fight song playing when he lost his virginity. He still turned down that job before they hired Kelly.
