Gun Control

  • Okay, everyone has the right to own a gun, and that should never be taken away.

However it seems obvious to me, both as an ordinary American and victim of the Tuscaloosa shooting this week, we need more gun control.

    A) Require EVERY gun purchase, not just those from licensed dealers, to have a background check. Make owners who are selling notify a government body about who they are selling to do the gun is accounted for, or if that's too much then make selling owners go through licensed dealers to get the background checks and pay a small fee to the business for the privilege.

    B) Outlaw assault rifles. They are only used in these horrible shootings. You don't need it for self defense and the ease with which they can be altered to full auto as well as larger magazine size makes them ideal for shooters looking to cause terror.

    C) In the same way people have to be competent to drive cars, require people to pass a shooting, safety and knowledge test about guns if they intend to own one. That way they should know when, where, and in what situations they can discharge their weapons.

If you intend to get a gun for self defense you are acknowledging you will use deadly force to defend yourself if threatened- that is serious and should be treated as such.

I think we should outlaw whisky. It's only used for getting drunk. People who just want a buzz can drink beer. Absolutely no reason why anybody needs to drink whisky. All that happens is DUIs.

    Illogical fallacy broseph.

This is what it already is like in California and there are still shootings with assault weapons every day.

The trouble with knee jerk gun control is 100 million people's rights will be infringed because one mentally ill person used a gun. With his background if he didn't have access to a gun he probably would have used explosives and killed more people.

There's absolutely nothing illogical about that. It's fine if you disagree, but the logic was flawless.

It's an association fallacy and a borderline red herring.

Why not try to take what they do good and merge that with what we do good?

Really. Considering those places have the lowest crime rates, best education and highest quality of life I'm surprised you wouldn't want to resemble them. Then I realized, this is 'Murica we're talkin about. No one can beat the good ole USA!

Liberals always love to point at other country's statistics to point out how bad the USA is.

Personally I don't give a flying fig about these little country's with their low crime rates and great educations.

Just curious, if effing S Korea is so great how come every neighborhood in So Cal is being bought up by expatriate S Koreans?

No no, all you have to do to keep a psycho from killing people is to make sure he can't purchase legally a weapon Diane Feinstein has decided is an assault rifle. Nothing else.

because their police force sucks, high rates of drug trafficking, sex trade, robberies, and rapes.

To your question: probably becuase they can actually live IN a neighborhood and not a skyrise in Seoul.

Expatriates are in every country, including Americans abroad. That doesn't equate to those countries being bad (because that would make every country bad?!?).

I don't see much wrong with any of this.

Current or former members (with clean records, of course) of our nations military should be able to own assault rifles, imo. Civilians should not.

The only problem I can come up with in your suggestions is the extra help that would be needed in whatever government agency (I would assume ATF) responsible for dealing with the background checks and calls from citizens selling firearms. That's easily solved though and worth the extra taxpayer dollars.

We definitely need more thorough background checks though, that's a no brainer. And Walmart shouldn't be selling guns, imo.

  • Imo. The society should get to where its normal for everyone to carry and handheld weapon. This way the public can protect themself when some nut job tries to act out. It would less likely happen if everyone knew that around you everyone else was carrying a gun as well. The problem is most of these people go crazy and think they can succeed in murdering a bunch of people in a mass shooting because they know everyone else is helpless in the situation.

No it's being pointed out because you are in love with the concept of Obama's utopian one world BS.

Of course their are expatriates in other countries but the Koreans in So Cal are an invasion. Pointing out that their living conditions are better here just defeats your argument.

Are you seriously going to sit there and tell me that nothing in this country needs changing?

I'm sorry but we are going the way of England in the 20th century. China and India are taking over. We are going to be a speed bump along the way unless we do something.

By the way, I never said that conditions were better here, but that there isn't much suburban living in South Korea. Again.

    Are you kidding me?

The UK has a higher violent crime rate than the US. They fear kids with knives and screwdrivers on the streets.

Check your visa status if you're so interested in living in a place like that.

UK is just one country. They do have a higher violent crime rate, but a fourth of our homicide rate.

    Hell yes things need changing.

The government needs to take it's nose out of everything and get back to letting it's citizens and business run their own affairs.

There needs to be massive cuts in federal spending and the release of many laws and statutes back to state control.

Congress needs consecutive term limits and the lobbiest's and special interest groups need to lose access to politicians

The courts need to stop making policy and merely interpret the law.

Taxes need to be simplified and deductions sliced.

I could go on for another page but I won't.

The Japanese buy up places all the time in Brazil. Doesn't mean brazil has better living conditions than Japan.
