Gunner Kiel, I'll say it...

  • Thanks for the correction. Been swamped with work & haven't been able to keep up.

I have serious questions on whether or not Gunner will be successful on the next level. We made him a 5star and theres no going back on that. He certainly has five-star talent. But history shows that commitment wafflers have a bad track record of living up to their potential and gunner had some of the biggest waffling I've ever seen.

I worry about a quarterback that handles the recruiting process the way he has. I hope he's successful but I'm starting to have some serious doubts.

    agreed hopefully we are wrong.

It makes no sense why Kiel is a 5* & Winston is a 4*. Winston has outperformed Kiel in every venue they have competed in and Winston seems more stable.

Pryor was a very good college QB. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about. Was he an idiot? yes, but there is zero doubt he is inbetween that very good and great level of college QBs. He lived up to his 5 star hype IMO.

Pryor was a good college QB. I think the point is, that if you treat your recruitment like this you add so much pressure to a game that is hard enough by itself. Pryor had success, but his inconsistancy is also what led to the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl instead of BCSCG's at least one of those years. tOSU was stacked while he was there and should have been able to run the table at least one of those years as the B1G was as far down as it had ever been while he was at tOSU. When you couple that the controversy that ended his college career, I don't think one can judge his career as a success, although he was a good QB. He just left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

Haha, forget switching schools, didn't this kid switch All Star games too? Word is he flipped to the Army game from the UA game because he didn't make the final cut for the Elite 11. lol

That's what ESPN guys are saying.shrug Who really knows? The USA Today article that stated his mom was crying and forced his hand was from some writer that Kiel didn't even talk to. I believe Steve W has been the point man on all the Kiel news.

Just think.........you could have had Montana's kid............who would have transferred just like he did from WA. And Crist.

Seriously though, QBs are a different category and there seems to be more of them transferring than other positions and it rarely seems to pay off. Other positions have a bit better success rate. USC has had lots of wafflers with some who really did well elsewhere like Te'o and CJ Spiller and others not so much like Henderson and Hazelton. I never did understand why Mustain came out here.

Very true.. Joe isn't happy with ND, so his son was never a real possibility.

Why is Joe unhappy? His son's transfer away from Sark is strange. He's a great QB coach and a very solid person. Jr isn't that great.

I have reflected on this and I really think it started when USC went back to Fayetteville and kicked the snot out of Arky. Both Mustain and Damien Williams saw how good USC was and how QBs and WRs were used by USC's staff. After Williams left and the s**t hit the fan with Mustain's mom and the coaches he just picked a spot his buddy was going to and that he remembered looking like a good place to play.

If that whole blow up wouldn't have happened he probably would have stayed at Arky and hung in there. I don't know how good he would have been but he would have been under terrible pressure from the local press. I think that's another reason he wen't 2,000 miles away.

He left UW because he would most likely be sitting behind Price for next season, if not two seasons. He basically said he wants a chance to play, and is looking at a JC for next year so he doesn't have to sit out.

Yup.. I was just about to post that. Glad to have him; he had a great senior season.

AJ answered a bunch of questions this season. I see him locked for the immediate future. Everyone has seen the debate about whether Phillip Sims will jump to UVA.. who knows? That leaves Bama with Ely and Alec Morris with Blake Sims as an emergency QB I would think. Not a lot of depth so I expect the QB position to get big attention by CNS and staff in 2013.

He's definitely better than Zach Kline and Travis Wilson. Travis Wilson at a 96 is the most comical ranking I've seen.
